Owner description: At Mobile’s Battleship Memorial Park, you don’t have to look very far to find heroes. From the Battleship USS ALABAMA to the Submarine USS DRUM and over 25 aircraft, the spirit of military pride is alive and well.Aboard the battleship you will be able to explore 12 decks. Among those, you can climb inside gun turrets, get locked in the Brig, man a 12mm gun and much more. Also at the park, you will be able to go below and explore inside the oldest Submarine on display, Submarine USS DRUM. In the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion as well as in the park, you will be able to view many rare and historic aircraft. A few in our collection include: A-12 Blackbird Spy Plane, OS2U Kingfisher, F-86L Sabre Jet, B-52 Bomber, just to name a few. While in the pavilion, don’t forget to take a ride on the Flight Simulator and experience flight without ever leaving the ground. It’s an unforgettable experience for the entire family. This place has much more than just the Battleship Alabama to explore.

However, the ship has almost no cooling. I would not recommend in the heat of Summer.

There is lots to see here and it is very difficult to see everything in one day. You can go throughout the battleship and imagine how the 2200 enlisted and 127 officers lived and fought the war in the 1940's. If you have more time, also visit the USS Drum Submarine and the Aircraft pavilion which is included in the memorial park. They also have a gift shop for those wanting a remembrance of the visit. Where comfortable shoes.

This is a wonderful place for a full day visit! Allow 3 to 4 hours to see the entire ship. You can do fewer decks of the ship in a shorter amount of time but you will want to see everything. The airplane museum is great as well. They have many plane of historical value to see. You can't miss the submarine eather. If you have never been in one this is your chance. One admission price gets you in to all exhibits! They to have a lunch counter as well.

We went with some friends just to take a quick look around and ended up spending about 4 hours. There was lots to see and lots of ship to cover. Several areas honoring those who have served. I will say it was 60’s outside and probably 40’s inside in areas. So if you are going during cooler weather bring a jacket at least. Besides the Alabama there are several planes and a submarine for you to look around.

This is a small way to immerse yourself in the challenges and demands Navy sailors endure. The ship is massive and the interior exhibits do an excellent job of depicting ship-life. Humbling.
