The Stadthuys is a historical structure situated in the heart of Melaka. It is built by the Dutch and certainly a good place to take photo due to the vibrant red color background it offers. The area also has the clock tower, Christ Church Melaka is always crowded with tourists. In the recent years since my last visit in 2015, there is a "I Love Melaka" signage put up for photo opportunity though I did not take any as tourists are lining up for it all day long!

Historically, the area is where a Melaka Free School was enacted by the British. Later on, it was renamed Melaka High School and relocated to else where.

We were one of the first visitors for the day. The ticket and information booth people need customer service training. Most of the day tours did not have time to visit this museum complex, so while outside was filled with loud people, inside was nice and quiet. If AC was blasting, it would have been even better! No floor plans were given. At the entrance, a poster showed several museums were included in the price. We visited most of them, but they were spread out and not easily located. So much to see, especially in the History and Ethnography Museum (the first museum from the ticketing/entrance).

Stadthuys is relatively a small building which focuses on the local culture of the region as well as a representation of the history of Maleka under different colonial powers. You may spend a maximum of an hour here.

This museum has so much unmet potential. But it is cool on a hot afternoon!! Poor signage in the museum tiny little cards in typed size 10/12 font.
There were some absolute gems but all mixed in with some pretty mediocre displays. No tour available - this may well have brought the place to life.
Building itself is impressive though!

In many ways it is the building itself which is the mst interesting part of the Stadthuys. The museum of ethnography has interesting exhibits though it is more cultural history than ethnography and it wasn't always clear what date the exhibits were depicting. The historical rooms too contained much of interest but sometimes historically unclear eg the section on the Japanese occupation had pictures from several dates between 1941 an 1945 but not chronologically. Also there was little in this section about the life of the inhabitants of Malaysia: it was mainly about British troops.
