First of all: We had booked two nights in advance and if we had not been that exhausted the day we arrived, we would have left right away and would not have stayed there at all. So we left the next morning one day early after a very (!) unpleasant stay. We travel a lot and never (!) had to flee from a hotel before!

At arrival the lobby looked a bit like a chaotic museum, but we did not mind and enjoyed looking at everything. The hotel is definitely not accessibly designed. The corridor smelled of feces.

At very first appearance the room looked dark and kind of gloomy, but bearable. At second appearance we were shocked and disgusted: Hairs on the bed, cushions and the sheet, more in the bathroom. There were strange stains of different colors on the bedding.
The bathroom was a disaster. Feces from previous guests in and on the toilet, pee on the toilet seat, dirty floor and sink which looked like it had not been cleaned for weeks ( grubby tap for example), and let’s not talk about the “mirror” or the towels... The lavatory flush did not flush at all (might have attracted the “cleaners” attention, if he or she had actually cleaned the room).

We kindly asked at the reception for a repair of the lavatory flush and a proper cleaning. We headed out for a few hours and the toilet finally flushed, but it was as dirty as before. (As we arrived and complained in the early afternoon there would have been plenty of time to fix this!) YUK!

We considered leaving but it was too late that night and so we stayed. We did not sleep well (If you pray to God “Please, do not let me die here!”, it is probably the best solution NOT to stay a second night.) and were absolutely disgusted, hardly touched anything and used a lot of our sanitizer.

We just took a quick look at the unhealthy, unsavory, unchilled (it was hot and the sun was shining) breakfast, noticed the flies and ants on the food and left to get breakfast somewhere else. Very disappointing.

When we checked out (remember: one day early) my husband wanted to give the receptionist a constructive feedback and told her very politely that we were not exactly happy with the cleanliness of our room. She was rude and did not care at all. She defrauded us of the tourist tax, too.
Outrageous and disappointing but unsurprising.

The place was built as a house for a wealthy family, but is now a rather interesting hotel. It doesn’t look very imposing from the front due to it rather narrow frontage, but it goes back a long way with a lovely courtyard for breakfast.
The location is excellent for the Chinese market in Jonker Street and close to the river etc

We spent 2 night from Feb 22-24 . The hotel is within walking distance from places we wanted to see and do. The rooms are nice and clean, the staffs are helpful to give us advise. Breakfast is good with varieties of food. We would go back there again.

There are a lot of good things to say about my stay at Hotel Puri. The architecture is amazing, and there is so much warmth and depth to the building. The suite we stayed in was spacious, quirky, and very comfortable/private. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. Well done!

A few negatives:

1. The pillows were too tall and hard. This made it difficult to get a good resting position.
2. Please make sure the shower drain is unclogged as part of your room checks.
3. Please clear out room service plates from outside the doors quickly. Our neighbours didn't finish their food, and left it half eaten on the floor outside their door. This wasn't cleaned/picked-up for 12 hours.

However, there was one very big negative that made things unpleasant. There's a nightclub next door, and I couldn't sleep until 3am both nights we were there. Heavy thumping dance music all night… was terrible. I'm not sure if other rooms have the same problem.

I'd definitely stay here again, if I was assured there wouldn't be any music.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is as far away as possible from the neighbouring nightclub.

We love this hotel. Excellent location, budget price, comfortable room and good breakfast. We stay in this hotel every time we visit Malacca. It is walking distance with all the local eateries including junker street.
