Excellent place for hiking. Very near neighborhoods but once you get on the trails you'd never know. Several great overlooks and places to relax. A small picnic pavilion and playground near the trailhead for families. Could use some better markings at trail intersections but otherwise very good. It's location makes it a great place for after work hike or all day.

I decided to try a couple of the trails located on Rainbow Mt Madison as it was too cold for golf. Hiking is always good in cold weather. Anyway the entrance or trail head has some parking but it is limited. One can park by the pavilion or slightly further uphill behind the water tower. While I parked at the pavilion I walked to the trail end or beginning, depending on your perspective, for the Rainbow Mt. Loop trail just behind the water tower. This trail also couple with the Jamookoo Loop trail to make for a 2.2 mile hike. The Rainbow trail is quite rocky though so one has to be careful. The 2 loops together made for an interesting and enjoyable hike. There are some descents and ascents but nothing too strenuous. I'd hike this again. Not as long as the trails going up Wade Mt or some of the trails on Monte Sano Mt.

I was a bit skeptical that this place would be good in the city. But it was a great hike with lots of places to take pictures. There is an easier walk and a harder one. We took the harder one, climbed on boulders and rocks. We took my 9 yo and 12 yo, plus our senior dog

It was never crowded and has several different trails. During summer several different type of wild animals can easily been seen.

Moderately challenging trails going up and down hill. Has beautiful foliage and boulder formations. Parking can be difficult on weekends. Very conveniently located for Huntsville and Madison residents.
