There are several Land Trust areas in Huntsville. The Land Trust either buys or receives parcels of land as donations to be maintained as natural areas.

There is one on Green Mountain just past the Madison County Nature Trail (maybe a mile or less) that is great! It is just past the Madison County Nature Trail on the same side of the road. Currently, there is not a sign at the street but you will see a gravel drive and parking area as you approach. This site is relatively new and the 2 times we've been there we were the only ones there.

From the parking lot take the Alum Trail. It's about 1.1 miles to the top of the falls and a fairly easy hike. Going down to the bottom of the falls is an additional short but steep trek but worth the effort. if you continue past the falls there are some huge rock overhangs that you will come to. A neat hike.

The land Trust is beautiful. The trails are well maintained. The trails run along a creek that adds so much to the walk. You often can hear owls at dusk, see deer feeding on the trail, and discover the history of Huntsville on the mountain. It's a great place to spend an afternoon. There's a picnic area near the parking lot.

I went with my hb & dog. Some trials are even enough so I could wear just sneakers. The address listed above is not the address where I parked my car: I parked at a pull off on the right side of road before Monte Sano Park. No charge for parking or to enter there. I didn't have a map but the trials r marked very well. I want to go back when I have more time.

We did the Fagan Trail.......its rocky going down at the beginning. We hiked to the springs and took other trails back to the top. Was fun little hike.

We hiked the Alms House and Fagan Springs trails, well maintained and very well marked. Many trails intersect and the signposts are spot on! Lots of rock formations
