Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

Due to lack of time we took one of the electric buggies to take us through the zoo. The visit lasted about one hour and thirty minutes. The zoo is best and clean. Drinking water is available free of cost via large reverse osmosis stations.

The zoo is huge in terms of area and capable of consuming one full day of your Mysuru itinerary. Though if you enjoy the animals without clicking pics, you can save much time. However, there are battery operated vehicles (charged separately from the entry fees) which offer zoo tour in about 90 minutes, helps you save some of your time if you are on a tight schedule. These vehicles have around 5 stops where one can get down the vehicle a and have a quick watch of several parks (snake park, crocodile park, etc). The zoo is closed on Tuesdays.

One of the best zoo in India. Have lot of varieties of animals. Snake section doesn’t have much collection. Total of 3-4 hour walk is needed. Battery powered vehicle is available inside to roam with extra fare

I think when in Mysore, one must visit this zoo. Mysore's weather and the variety of animals, birds there really made our day. It is very well maintained place. This is where I saw Giraffes ever in real. Must visit for everyone.

Clean and well maintained, task-oriented workforce, hygienic toilets, restful benches under old shady trees, water points within easy reach, child care centres offering ready safety, and eco-friendly battery operated cars welcoming the aged and frail or simply tired makes this #Mysuru ZooNo1.The neatly written informal details of all the flora and fauna makes it friendly, informative and beckoning the curious.what is overwhelming however is the outstanding cleanliness of a conventional dirty area.the forest is wild but friendly and the fauna ready to welcome the homo sapiens.Mysuru you make me proud.Go visit a friendly and warm place infamously called a Zoo!oh yes! The one one on leopard black spots becoming intimate with a camel to be the still and stately zebra is the wit that gives you an additional smile for free.
