Owner description: Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as ‘Mysuru Zoo’, is one of the oldest zoos of the country established in 1892, by His Highness, the erstwhile Ruler of Mysuru Sri Chamarajendra Wadiyar Bahadur. Mysuru Zoo holds an important place in Karnataka. In 1909 the Palace Zoo was named as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens to commemorate the illustrious founder and since then it bears the nomenclature. Mysuru Zoo has gradually grown into tourist centre, imparting wildlife values. It has got 123 years of history exhibiting wild animals in the near natural enclosures. Despite majority of the zoos have been shifted from the original place to the new places, Mysuru Zoo could modernize the zoo, without shifting the zoo. The zoo is well compacted unit, with modern animal enclosures including heritage buildings attracting tourists all over the world.

After visiting so many Zoos in various places, this one truly took my breath away. Everything is positive about this place, except the number of battery operated carts. On a crowded day, you might have to wait for half to one hour. But really speaking there is no need, you can easily navigate, walking. Best part is the layout. You enter through one gate, and follow the long winding, tree shaded road inside, that’s all you have to do. This road will take you to all the nooks and corners and finally to the exit gate. It’s squeaky clean inside, both the visitor’s walkway and the animal enclosures. No bad smell whatsoever, typical of Indian Zoos. Instead, all along you’ll get a whiff of Sandal fragrance wafting in the air, due to the Sandal trees all around. Every two hundred meters you’ll get benches to rest, clean toilets, baby care centers and cold water faucets. Animals are in the best of health, so good that we often got confused whether the animal is live or just a statue, till it moved or twitched it’s muscle. Nice experience.

This Zoo is really fantastic. I mean you will find almost most of the living species in this zoo. Main part is that they have really maintained this property well. You can enjoy animal viewing..can be mode interactive with your child, so that child will take more interest in early stage.
Too Large area so plan one entire day if you want to visit each and every cage..They provide ferry on chargeable basis for senior citizens. So that they can also enjoy..

The Zoo is one of the best kept Zoos in the world and completely naturally maintained. The caddy service is a must for comfortable viewing of the animals.
