We ordered a shahi chicken korma and it was as awful as it could be . It tasted like boiled soya bean in a flavourless curry. Better eat at shere punjab they have delicious food and reasonable rates and quantity.

It is a mystery why this restaurant, run by the HP tourism development board is so recommended. It does have good views, but the staff were quite slow and unhelpful.

Apart from a few dishes marked as Himalchali the rest is fairly standard North Indian restaurant fayre, with the usual extra pizza, chips and Chinese foods thrown in. We visited mid afternoon and after a lengthy wait both for menus and then for our order to be taken were then told the kitchen was closed and that only a few Chinese foods were offered.

The Chinese food provided was less than impressive - gloopy sticky sauce drowning the noodles in the chowmein and bland for fried rice.

Perhaps Tourism boards should stick to tourism and restaurant professionals to selling food?

Restaurant run by the Himachal Pradesh tourist board. We went here as we were told it was one of the few places in Shimla to get true Himachali food.

The service was slow and on ordering we were told half the menu was unavailable. Not very inspiring food nor service but sitting on the balcony at Ashiana you had a good view. Goofa does the same food but without the view, so is cheaper!

Wouldn't rush back.

This restaurant on the Ridge is itself a heritage building. We stopped for lunch at Ashiana which is on the top and offers a splendid view. Goofa is sort of underground. We had Himachal food - chicken and mutton - and the taste of the dishes were excellent. The portion sizes were small, and especially the mutton hardly had any sizeable pieces and was mostly wasted.

I dined at goofa, which is in the basement of ashiana, supposedly sharing the kitchen. Thali (around r250) was unavailable till 7, so I had a telumen (?) Soup, a Nan and a lime drink for r200. It was Meh, I won't go back. It's also a bar, but not cheap:beer around r250. Table service in uniform, but not attentive. Note they add a 20%gst on top.
