It's hard to beleive that this was man made so many years ago on top of this rock without modern technology and tools. It's a tough climb up the stairs but if you start early in the morning just when the park is opening it will be easier. We also went in October where the weather was not so hot and cooled down by the rain showers.
Sigiriya refuses to reveal its secrets easily, and you'll have to climb a series of very narrow steps. The staircases attached to sheer walls to reach the top. On the way you'll pass a series of quite remarkable frescoes and a pair of colossal lion's paws carved into the bedrock. The surrounding landscape – lily-pad-covered moats, water gardens and cave shrines – only add to Sigiriya's rock-star appeal.

The effort to climb all the way up 70 floors is worth every drop of sweat. Try to visit on a working day in order to avoid the rush. carry enough drinking water, wear good shoes with grip and do not miss to carry a CAMERA....believe me you will not regret the climb.

For those who have excuses this being steep...Our group had a 3 & 4 Year Old who were very enthusiastic to climb all the way :).

MUST Experience...for Sri Lanka, THE View, History, Art, Adventurous climb.

Honestly this tourist attraction is really overpriced. I guess that everyone just wants to say that they climbed Sigiraya, but I don't think it's worth the hype. Sure it's cool, but climbing the small rock (nearby) was actually more fun.
