i came here upon recommendation from a friend, and spent a very comfortable afternoon in this well decorated, air conditioned cafe

food and drinks are wonderful, the staff is also very helpful! i strongly recommend the pompey toast, which goes wonderfully with the very delicious tea here

Shop is small but filled with so many choices and prices. Good if you want a small sample or a lot of tea. Recommended.

The cafe (upstairs) however was slightly disappointing and did not serve much of a range of teas that their store sells. From memory it was mostly iced soursop tea, iced lemon tea or just black tea with/without milk.
Dilmah tea place in Colombo is far better to try their tea products.

I've been going to Mlesna shops since decades. Definitely the best black tea one can buy. A wide range of teas, mainly focusing on what Sri Lanka produces the best of - BLACK TEA. Don't expect a variety of green or red tea here. Sri Lanka is popular for black tea & nothing else.

Few cosy tables offer you the chance to try a few teas, while having a quick snack. Great place for a hot cuppa & chat.

Dilmah aside, tea marketing from Sri Lanka seems stuck in the 70's and Mlsena reflects this.
Their offering is almost exclusively black tea.
Packaging and presentation is kitschy and dated and looks like something you would give as a present to your grandmother.
There has been huge growth around the developed world in consumption of varietals such as green, herbal and chai teas but Sri Lankan tea producers don't really reflect this.
When I asked the sales person if she had any green tea, she gave me oolong and said it's also green tea.
I look forward to trying the Dilmah cafe in Colombo.

Thank Konrad M
