This is a lovely hotel. Michelle the owner oversees the whole experience with passion and care. We had a 2 room suite, with a small living area, inside and outside showers in the bathroom, and a terrace where you can watch birds and monkeys and listen to the call to prayer in the morning and evening. The air con is great and there is a unit in each room. There is a very nice pool.
The hotel is right by the lake, so the views from the pool and terrace where dinner is served are beautiful. You can walk or borrow a bike (though the bikes need a good service so do give them a good try before venturing out) along the lakeside and then the canals through rice fields and villages - its just beautiful, and we met some lovely local folk as we went. The food is very very good here, breakfast was huge, everything you could think of. We had a great curry one night and lake fish another, both excellent. There is so much to do locally, that its lovely to come back to the peace at the hotel and then a relaxing dinner.
The hotel manager organised a driver (Saman)to pick us up from Passekudah, and we employed him the next day for a day of sightseeing starting early in the morning climbing Pidarangala Rock. Having a good guide and driver really helps when you have limited time so we were very grateful to be put in such good hands.
Overall we would definitely recommend staying here, it is an intimate and relaxing haven.

Lake Lodge is run by hotel management veteran Michel who has over 30 years experience in the business. He is French on one side and Swiss German on the other - and he brings to his work the panache of the French and the efficiency of the Swiss Germans.

There are just 12 rooms so the hotel can accommodate a total of just 30 people - you feel truly like a guest not a tourist. The food is wonderful and the chef was able to accommodate our particular requests. The hotel is well located for exploring the ruins of Sigiraya and Polonnoruwa.

What a FABULOUS start to our Sri Lanka holiday. Michel and his team were incredibly warm and welcoming, with countless little touches (like a complimentary pool-side cocktail) adding to our wonderful (and spotlessly clean) rooms, the gorgeous swimming pool and amazing views across Kandalama lake. And as if that wasn’t enough, the food is superb - a fabulous combination of fine cuisine with Sri Lankan touches, and all beautifully served. Oh and the coffee was the best we had all holiday!

I also must mention what special care the team took of our two children, aged 9 and 5. They were thoroughly spoiled with delicious, special child-friendly food and drinks, wildlife watching and plenty of interaction from everyone.

We were so pleased to have booked 4 nights in such a special place!!

Room tip: The top floor rooms have fabulous sunset views

We spent the night in this lovely boutique hotel last week and we wish we had booked for longer.
The staff were wonderful, the little treats were appreciated and the owner as very hospitable. A lovely setting and very comfortable rooms and great food.
Highly recommend.
