At 7 o clock each evening the BBQ is started up. One night we had succulent fresh fish and the next night we had huge tiger prawns. Delicious. We were actually staying at Coral View next door but that one is no alcohol and- well- we're British- so we were happy to find beer here at The Barat!

The food was nice, but very expensive. The portion is big, during night the beach side tables full pack, the restaurant will be happening mode with songs.

We were staying at the the Barat- so ate at the Barat restaurant a number of times. All meals (breakfasts & dinner) are of a good size - which fuelled us up before & after big days of diving.

The roti chanai for breakfast was a favourite each day. As was the coconut smoothie(which my daughter loved). The Barat was also the only place that got the concept of starters. Everywhere else just brings food in whatever order it comes off the grill/wok - but when you are on a beautiful tropical island, who really cares what order your food comes in!

The setting is lovely- right on the beach & overlooking the Barat jetty - so you can watch all the comings & goings.

The restaurant is a real hive of activity at night time - with groups playing cards, board games & reading at the tables.

Food & beer is slightly more expensive than adjacent restaurants- eg a Tiger beer is 10 ringgit at the Barat & 9 ringgit at Belinda’s & the Blue Poppy, while a can of tonic water (for the G&Ts) was 4 ringgit at each.

The worst aspect of the Barat restaurant was the terrible wifi! We frequently went next door to Belinda’s & the Blue Poppy (where wifi was great) for desert & a cleansing ale simply to connect to the outside world.

We stayed at Barat for a week and ate there often. The grilled seafood was amazing, especially the squid and the samba that goes with it is amazing. Other outstanding items were the coconut shakes, the burger and kangkung belacan. The prices are higher than the surrounding restaurants but the quality and quantity are such that it is well worth the price.

And to top it all off the service staff are fast, friendly and efficient. Not once was an order wrong and the staff always had a smile.

Expect KL/Tourist prices, the satay was all meat which was great, had their grilled seafood on 2 consecutive dinners, tasty and fresh.
