Just great to chill out after travelling across Asia & the world ! Wonderful people and great place to relax plus do nothing, enjoy the sea and stars at night.
Very friendly Capt. i.e. the PirateKing of Kapas Island plus his molly crew and island dog, Jane the guide and jolly ladyof the island, bring you back to the Longhouse if you are lost in the jungle on the island adventure outing !.
Very clean toilets and garden area plus beautiful semi-private beach front for sun bathing or swim in the clear blue waters.

We´re backpacking with my friend in Asia and were looking for a nice and relaxing island and decided to travel to Pulau Kapas. Many places didn´t have vaccancy so we ended up to Captain´s longhouse who had only empty rooms. We saw one guy staying there.

Everything seemed to be okay first. The cpt and the other worker were friendly and the room seemed to be okay, basic backpacker style. Description of the accommodation style in the previous review was just how it was. In the evening when we came back to our room there were rats!! The rats (about 8-10..I counted..) had eaten pieces from by backpack and there were their feces around the room - also in the bed.... Rats of course got scared when we came in the room and were escaping, some under the bed and along the wall to the roof balks... As we didn´t have any choice to leave immediately from the island - we were sleeping in shifts...and left the place in the early morning. The rats were running in the roof balks (inside the room) along the night.. and making noises..

I just checked out the website that the previous reviewer had given and cannot believe that someone have even brought their children to this place... Maybe they didn´t have the rat problem before..

We were looking for a calm island, but when it comes a problem to find a restaurant to get some food yourself..I would rather stay on island where you don't have to look for it long. I guess this island has had its better days some years ago as one could see some old huts and some "restaurant" which weren´t in use anymore. We went to ask few places - for example kapas turtle valley, but as they had only food for their guests.

Without rats would have been okay backpacker place but...seriously you don´t want to experience this...be smart and keep away from the place! You can also find so much better islands in the Asia so don´t bother to travel to this one.

If you're looking for a backpackers on Pulau Kapas (Cotton Island or Kapas Island), this is it. There is only one. It was previously known as the Lighthouse, due to its location near the lighthouse but don't go asking for it because you WILL be directed up the long flight of steps to the real thing.

Come here if you have a sense of humour and enjoy the Capt's company. The place is clean, it gets sandy but if you're willing to clean up after yourself, its fine. No hot water (I'm not sure there is any on the island) and just a simple table fan. It can get chilly at night so airconditioning is really not needed. However, it can get quite hot at the beach in the afternoon but no fear, you can pop over to Turtle Valley next door for a can of soda, which is what we did (often).

The Capts Longhouse is located to the right of the jetty at the end of the beach. You can check out pictures and the capt's blog at captslonghouse.blogspot.com
