We stayed on Lankayan Island for 6 nights. It is 1 1/2 hours by boat. Upon arrival we were met and taken to the restaurant, where cold flannels (much needed) and a glass of fruit juice awaited us. We were given a brief introduction to the island. Our chalet overlooked the sea. The food was lovely & alcohol was served at extra cost,
We saw numerous green turtles hatching and a couple of horn billed turtle nests hatching. We were lucky to let 2 baby turtles back to the sea. Also 2 green turtles building their nests, then go back to the sea.
Swam with wild turtles and a 3.5 metres shark swam past my husband. All of the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We would like to return.
Rooms have air conditioning, beach towels were provided as well as complimentary water in you chalet. Dress code is casual, I wore shorts & top when going to dinner

We snorkelers enjoyed three nights here. Divers might want more. About 1 1/2 hours out of Sandakan (included) you land at the tiny island. Chalets ring the island, offering a first class lodging in a remote place. The water is clear, sea turtles (our highest count 45) graze in shallow water, and fish and coral diverse and abundant...and that from snorkeling.

The main lounge / restaurant is cavernous, upon its stilts over the Sulu Sea. The dive center has a variety of boats and several sites, all praised by diving guests.

The food (included) is, well, ample.

Our biggest need was a reference library...guides to the coral and other marine life...an odd omission. Conversely, the rescue project and center for turtles is worth a visit. If you wish, they'll fetch you to see eggs laid of babies released to the sea.

We loved our stay.

Amazing place, to say the least. After few meters walk on jetty footbridge upon arrival, we spotted 2-3 sea turtles. Attended hatching and nesting too.
Very friendly staff.
Food is excellent and tasty.
A 2 days stay in this hidden sea treasure makes you feel how important it is to preserve our oceans: great for kids (3 yr old daughter swam with turtles)
Unforgettable experience!

Our family of 5 (kids 16, 14 and 11) feel very privileged that we have been able to visit Lankayan Island. It really is paradise on a small stretch of sand - you can walk around it in 15 minutes.
The water is the colour you dream of, we snorkelled with the turtles, lazed outside our lovely bungalows and ate to our hearts content.
Yes, there was an armed guard on our boat across and a squad patrolling the island but that just made me feel safe.
Thankyou to all the people at Lankayan!

Stayed 3 nihgts on the island. There is only one resort , managing ca.20 wooden chalets. Most of them are situated on the beach.
Fortunately we had airco in our room. Fridge, Outdoor shower (next to indoor bath) was very convenient. Coffe and ea in our room.A nice couch indoor and a graet terrace, giving views onto the sea.
Staff was not overall very friendly, but provided adequate service.
The witnessing of hatchlings coming out of their sand nest and and nesting by a huge green turtle were true spectacles. Don't miss it ! Snorkelling next to the jetty is marvellous, both for coral as for fishes. The snorkelling boat trip ( at a fee) did certainly not bring any better views.
The beach can easily be strolled and is jaw dropping tropical,. Try to watch sunset at the beach 'on the other end 'of the island
