I would highly recommend a vist to the Ark ,the rooms are small but the experience is memorable. Very friendly staffs eager to assist, the food is out of this world with varieties of Cuisine to cover all guests from different places.

The viewing decks at the lodge are breath taking, very close views of all the animals that visited the waterhole.

It's definately a beautiful lodge. That is until you get to the rooms/cabins. Cabins on deck A and B are ok. But deck C...worser an camping worse than boarding school. Unfortunately all are priced the same. My room was C2. A twin that should have been a single. Window in the bathroom opened out into the hotel kitchen so staff can see you getting ready (no privacy) or even sitting on the loo. Also did I mention the bathroom had no door. So when you use the loo well, the whiff can be smelt in the room. If you are 2 people in the room one of you needs to step out or painful endure as the other person takes a dump. Not nice

The Ark is an amazing concept inside the Aberdare National Park. A ship like lodge with a large watering hole to view means that you can have an amazing sitting safari. Cape Buffaloes come aplenty as do various deer and of course the various water birds. Leopards too come to drink and have a snack with the various herbivores available to choose from. The other amazing thing is the lack of big cats like lions and cheetahs means the hyenas have to learn to be hunters vs scavengers. And they hunt in packs ferociously - most big buffaloes are missing a tail because the hyenas have bitten them off. All in all, a pretty innovative way to do a safari in the Aberdares. :-)

The Ark offers a experience with an edge, isolated yet connected , luxurious, friendly, an immersive experience with the struggles of predator and prey right in front of your eyes Atmospheric with a wonderful view across the salt lick to the great Mt Kenya beautifully lit in the early morning sunrise
Staff are friendly and informative with Charles the resident Ark captain offering wildlife knowledge in abundance The lounges and look out areas are wonderfully located ,you can soak up the essential African experience in the comfort of a well furnished lounge with good food and a warm fire when needed the restaurant offers a view into the wild .The sound of Africa enters each room at night as the salt lick night animals come alive . The offer of a wake up bell should the resident local leopard come by plus you can get up close and personal ( no widows ) with the drama if you chose to visit the brick dugout viewing area ,a matter of a few feet from the action where you can not only see and hear the animals you can smell them too !
When you arrive from your check in at the aberdare country club listen out for the breifing you will be able to ask whats been seen always worth a look out for the resident Ark road leopard as you travel through the park to the Ark especially if you are travelling up early or late

Room tip: A rooms are higher up if you prefer a smaller number of stairs ask for the B rooms

The Ark has an amazing view onto a waterhole and salt lick and we got really lucky and had a whole elephant herd right outside all day and night. They were so close you could almost touch them.
The ark has a balcony where you can look down onto the waterhole but also has a lounge with a glas window front looking onto the waterhole and salt lick so you can cozy up in there when it gets too cold and still watch the animals.
The food was also great the only reason for the 4 instead of 5 star rating would be the size of the rooms (very small). The staff was great and everything else was perfect.
