Loved our holiday in the desert, with my three kids, between 3 and 11 years old. What a magical place! Specatular views, and amazing rose-coloured soft sand. The kids could just run around and play in the sand, while the grown ups sat on a rug in the sun and talked, read books and relaxed. We also rode on camels and took a jeep ride to a gigantic sand dune where the kids rolled and jumped in the sand. The pictures don't even do it justice. A must see!

Wadi Rum is beautiful. We experienced the area with Bedouin Lifestyle Camp, worth every penny and lots of fun.

Wadi Rum is a large, protected area (a "sand valley"), a 1-2 hour drive east of Aqaba. You can do a short day-trip there on your way to Petra, or stay there overnight in one of the desert camps, and spend the afternoon and next morning discovering the area. If you do the short visit, go for a 4x4 tour of the area, while those who decide to stay overnight can do both a 4x4 tour and a camel ride. Both are very nice! Your guide will take you for a several-hour tour around Wadi Rum, to see some nice rock formations, old Nabatean and Thamudic inscriptions on stone walls, and overall, just a lot of spectacular views. Definitely worth a visit with a guide!

When you arrive in Wadi Rum, you can sense why the producers of the Martian chose Wadi Rum as the paramount location for the film. The scenery is mind boggling and the land and mountains are just endless. Spend the night in the desert to get the full experience. I was amazed at how many sights inside the desert there were; Lawrence's House, Khazali Canyon, Lawrence Spring, TThe Sand Dunes, the multiple Rock Bridges; it was Great! We have to come back here one day to get the incredible sunset since it was kind of disappointing due to the haziness when we went.
When in Jordan, visit Wadi Rum, you will not regret it.
