Mount Batur and Lake Batur is actually a one place visit. You can see the mountain and the lake nearby. Beautiful place. Many people, many sellers, many items and many photos. Great time to enjoy. Don't forget to bargain

Soaked in the lakeside hotpools after Mt Batur trek. Next time I'll do some lake activities too. Toilets/change rooms are a little basic but the beauty of the people and place were too amazing.

The road to the lake is scenic. The road passes over old lava flows. The view of Mount Batur is spectacular. The area is best viewed in sunlight. The lake dock has a ferry service and snack stores. There are bathrooms too. The lake is quite ordinary and barren. The amazing part is that Lake Batur is inside the crater of the volcano. It is not beautiful on a rainy day. It will take around 1 hour to visit.

It was quite a drive from Amed - 2.5 hours, but over narrow roads, past rice paddies climbing all the way. The vegetation changed as we got higher and on reaching the ridge, we were amazed by the views out over the lake. Less impressive were the midges, the fees to hop out and take a photo, and the hawkers having a ding dong row with one another, we moved on to Kintamani for lunch which was a real tourist trap, with a fee to enter the town???? After lunch we drove down the hill towards the lake and around to the hot springs, across an old lava flow. Fascinating. I am glad we went, but would suggest it is a long drive and may not be for everyone! It might be worth a stay overnight on the way to somewhere else, rather than trying to pack it all In a day.
