Stayed here for three days room 600 (?) had the view to die for but thats about it. If you are looking for a room whichever is a good location stay here. Didn't eat in the restaurant due to other reviews however checked out the breakfast which was free. Well didn't go back for the other two morning it must be the worse food I have ever seen ...do not eat here. The view is great watching the village and overall glad we stayed here in tam coc. Ninh binh was way to busy for us. Not what we were looking for. The morning we arrived from the train the taxi driver told us of a restaurant on the way in (4 doors up from the hotel ) LANG KHANH ...everything was great here coffee hired motorbikes got invited to the owners son wedding breakfast.went rowing with the aunt could not fault the place ...food was good and has fast wifi which is free .great to upload photos while having a drink and waiting for a meal .

Room tip: Room 600 had the views to die for

We stayed here for one night, before doing a cycling and rowing boat day trip early the next day (to avoid the mass tourists). It seems to be the main hotel here, with fantastic views of the local market, lake filled with rowing boats and the beautiful mountains and rice paddies. We could hear the locals chattering in the streets and watched local boys play football until the sun went down, it was great to see another side to Vietnam after spending a few days in hectic Hanoi. Our room on floor five had panoramic views of the town and I would recommend asking for a room on this floor. Each room felt very spacious and had these huge windows where you almost felt like you were in a glass capsule! Everytime we wandered down the spiral staircases, lots of friends/families were just hanging out in their rooms with the doors wide open or on the stairs chattering to each other and you could get a glimpse into their private world which was very bizarre but kind of sweet. We ate at the hotel, but were the only ones eating and I'm not sure why it was so quiet. The food was OK, but the hotel does feel like it could do with a bit of an overhaul as it lacks a little warmth and care. Overall I think it was an interesting place to spend one night and seemed to be the best hotel for the location that we were in. I would recommend it for others looking to do something similar to us, who like slightly quirky hotels, rather than some luxurious chain hotel!

Room tip: Ask for one on the fifth floor

This hotel is in the best location to explore the Tam Coc area, being just across the road from the start of the Tam Coc boat trips. Tam Coc is about 10km from Ninh Binh. There's a local market also across the road with freshly cooked snacks and fresh produce. The local people were friendly. The hotel lent us free bicycles to explore the area, which was a highlight.
The whole hotel building seemed to be on a lean, ie. like Leaning Tower of Piza, and the entrance and public areas need a really good clean. There was brown liquid running down the walls behind the computer area. We spotted mice running along ledges in the kitchen where the clean crockery is kept. Mice are everywhere in Vietnam, but the mouse dirt hadn't been cleaned away for ages. The breakfast consisted of stale bread rolls and pre-cooked fritter things - all reheated in the microwave. The fresh fruit was good though. The bedrooms were spotless and there was lots of hot water.
Beware of the one day tour offered by the hotel at US$50 pp. Our guide was an employee from the hotel. While he tried really hard, he had very limited english and did not understand when asked questions. He also spent most of his time talking on his mobile cell phone. The tour lunch was just awful at the VERY run down and derelict Van Long Resort. The food was awful and the place was dirty. At this stage we decided to bale out of our tour, and headed back to Tam Coc to do the boat trip and then some cycling.
I'm not sure what the alternatives are for accommodation in this fantastic area. If only the The Long Hotel owners could give it a good clean up, it would be great value.

I found it impossible to contact the hotel direct and in the end had to find a travel agent that could book for us. We did a trip from Hanoi and stayed over. in Tam Coc Such a quiet town with nothing there and v limited food choices for dinner. We didn't really enjoy our stay here and one night should definitely be the max you stay here. It did give us the benefit of being able to go out on the river at about 4 when everyone else had gone home., which was v worthwhile. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but on the basis of our first night decided that after visiting Cuc Phuong NP the next day to head straight back to Hanoi for a bit of decent food. The hotel were pulling down their restaurant during our stay meaning jackhammers going all afternoon until 8 o clock. The room was quite nice with a great view off the front over the start of the river. breakfast was waiting on the table when we came down in the morning, don't know how long it had been sat there with the flies walking across so we didn't eat much of it. strange hotel, only 1 other couple staying there when we were there, yet plenty of staff to run the empty hotel. Neils, the guy that organised tours in the hotel was helpful and friendly and it really felt like he was the hotel manager as well as the actual manager was pretty disinterested. We had the operations manager as a tour guide to cuc phuong and he was very good, spoke great english and pointed out lots of stuff to us during on our walk and also had good conversations with him in general about Vietnamese history. Our best guide in Vietnam. I wish I could remember his name...

We have just returned from a 14 day trip ti vietnam and stayed at the long hotel in Tam coc for three nights in april 2010.
We stayed in a twin room for the first night as we were delayed by one day arriving into the hotel due our own trips plan changing - the twin room was clean and very comfortable - clean sheets, floors, bathrooms really helped as we actually expected this to be our cheapest and therefore poorest quality hotel of our entire trip, but it was great - i expected the worse but was surprised - the rooms have plenty of room and do the job - our room was on the 5th floor. The only thing to be careful on this floor if you have kids would be the open sided terrace - and lack of outside lights at night time on this floor only.
we then moved to a double at the front of the hotel (room 500) with the most amazing view of tam coc river and hills - beautiful.
the room again was clean and had plenty of space - the only thing is the curtains slightly smelt damp/ musty, but it goes without saying for a hotel in this area. - it was not a problem and would highly recommend this hotel instead of any in nihm bihn - if you need a hair dryer, you simply ask reception and they give you one that is really good - its not a problem.

Tam coc is quiet and has amazing views and allows you to access some amazing little temples easily from the hotel and be there early in the am before any coach parties turn up around 11am - if you stay in nihm bihn you are on dusty, noisy main roads and have to taxi out to get to see the country side.... tam coc is already where you want to be to see everything beautiful in this area.

the only downside to the hotel as other reviews, is that the breakfast really does consist of some french bread and sweet breads with no real jams or anything to put on them. they will cook you some eggs, but in half a bottle of oil, so clearly instruct them on what you want and then its not so bad! - coffee and fruit juice are available and also some local noodles and spring rolls etc, but they turn off the heaters when no one is there, then they turn them back on when the next guests arrive, so i did not eat much other than toast for breakfast as worried about food poisoning!
dinner is better as they do have a menu full of local dishes.... most seem to taste the same or very similar despite what you order, but a few nights is no problem, but on our third night we were defiantly a little bored!

defiantly recommend this hotel for great location - make sure you hire bikes and turn left out of the hotel and cycle down to the temples and also there is a cave that you can boat thru which as great - defiantly also the boat ride from outside the hotel is beautiful and very peaceful..... ignore the lonely planet saying that you will get hassled by the boat women - they do try and sell fresh pineapple and the occasional emb, but have a laugh with them and they are great back - its is really not a stressful experience in anyway = great time in Tam Coc and would go back.

each room also has its own computer and tv, which is great if you want to catch up with home or check out further info for your forward trip.
