We asked for a room on the beach and you couldn't have written it. Bear in mind this is a series of individual accommodations built inside a jungle right down to the beach. We had a family of Iguanas living right outside in the sand. Our four poster bedroom was 5 metres from the water and glass all around. The bathroom was all outside at the back built into the rocks. They have fantastic massage girls on resort for £5 an hour, amazing.

Room Tip: Get as close to the front as possible

The end of our stay at Charm Churree marred what was otherwise a good stay. When using the bathroom my boyfriend had slipped and fallen over - something must have been loose, but the bidet came away from its footing as he fell against it and it broke. When we came to check out, Charm Churree charged what would amount to a whole month's worth of accommodation in other resorts because of this accident, and threatened to call the police if we didn't pay up! We stood our ground for as long as we could, but in the end with a ferry to catch we simply had to hand over our credit card - it left a shadow over the stay, as you can imagine.

The ferry trip to the island was very very rough, due to bad weather that stayed with us on and off for the 10 days of our visit. When we arrived we discovered from another guest that the main restaurant had burned down 2 months before, which didn't seem to be a problem as the Elvis bar would be open for food. My only concern at this point is that the hotel hadn't told us.

We had booked a sunset cottage which was absolutely fabulous, it was perched on the rocks at the far side of Jansom Bay. Unfortunately due to the weather we never got to use the sunbathing area - always too windy or soaked by the sea - but the whole area for our use was impressive.
All the staff were friendly and helpful when possible - when I wanted to find a beauty shop for a leg wax nobody at reception knew where I could go! luckily found one myself, in fact heaps of beauty salons advertised waxing nearby.
On the third day my daughter got food poisoning from fish eaten at the restaurant - at this point we had only eaten at the hotel restaurant so there was no doubt - and was in bed for the next 3 days which rather spoilt our holiday. From then on we only had breakfast at the hotel and walked into town (approx 15 minutes) to eat.
We went diving on the last 2 days, everybody at the dive school was great.
During our stay from December 26 to January 4, there was music being played very loudly every single night sometimes til 4.30 in the morning from one place or another on the island - somehow not the idyll I was hoping for!
If you read this review you might think we didn't enjoy the hotel, but it was a little paradise that unfortunately for us was spoilt by the weather (not their fault) and bad food.

Charm Churee Villa is comprised of a number of nice bungalows and the main house, all of which are located either directly at or in easy walking distance to Jansom Bay, the private beach associated with this property. Everything is well maintained and the stuff is very helpful (and professional, which doesn't always go together :-) I spent a very pleasant week there and the only thing that prevents me from giving them 5 points is the fact that they overcharge for additional services such as laundry, massage, or dinner at the StarLight restaurant etc. Location isn't just everything...

I stayed there three days with my sister and her boyfriend, and two kids. The hotel scenery is amazing and the private beach is a piece of hidden paradise if you are looking for that unique bounty feeling. It is bit more expensive that the less hotels in the center but well worth the extra dime, rooms are clean and have a unique Thai design in the interior, The only thing is if you are disabled or have difficulties walking the way from the rooms to the exit and the lobby is quite steep so you are warned, check out the restaurant near the beach, where evening dinners a la carte and the breakfast buffet is served. The Resort also has a dive school and club run by a very friendly Dutch lady.
