Anda Lay hotel is an old hotel placed very close to a noicey Road, which defenetly has a negative effekt on your sleep.
The hotel has about 20 rooms, and only 12 sunbeds, and 8 sunchairs, so at 7.00 AM there Were no place to get. At the secondat Day of our stay, I had an unplesant diskussion with the hotelmanager about this, with a reaktion from him
I Will not put on wrighting.
But I dont know if it Was that diskussion or not that resulteret in that there after an other couple of days came an other 10 sunchairs,so there came a besætter balance in nummer of rooms and the nummer of sunchairs. Well done manager!
We Got room 101 which is absolutely hopeless placed behind the restaurant with no seaview at all, but with all the guests looking directly in to our room. Don't accept room 101. The drain from the shower Was stoped and When I mentioned it in the reception They Said, that I had to live with it as the problem Was, that the tube in the drain Was to small, and They had to break up the floor if They should solve the problem !!
But there are also positive things to mention about the hotel.
The staff in the restaurant Were Nice to US, and the breakfast Was ok but simple.
The Best thing to say about this hotel is the that it is placed on a very good beach, with a lot of bars and restaurants close to.
Try the Mojitos at Majestic bar 300 meters South of Andalay, They are fantastic.
And try Yong GardenRestaurant
I would be glad to go back to the Klong beach, but I would Never stay at Anda Lay hotel again.

Room Tip: Don't accept room 101 at all.

The Andalay Boutique Resort offers good quality beach-side accommodation, a tranquil atmosphere, excellent staff, nice food and represents very good value for money. It has a lot of great features marred by only a couple of negatives.

First, the positives. During our 2-week stay (room 107), all the staff were very friendly, cheerful and helpful. Every single one of them responded with humour and grace to our wildly inaccurate attempts at Thai phrases and the friendliness of the staff really did enhance our holiday experience.

The rooms are spacious, clean and attractively decorated. Full-length sliding windows open onto a good-sized private patio. The bed is large and comfortable and the air-conditioning very effective. After I defrosted the fridge, it too was effective. The bathroom was clean, although the shower was in need of a little maintenance. The patio is surrounded by a “moat” containing water-lilies, small fish, and the odd not-so-small but harmless monitor lizard. Surprisingly there were almost no mosquitoes (maybe the fish eat the larvae). From the patio, you can hop over 3 stepping- stones set in the moat to the pool area which separates the line of rooms from the beach.

The pool area is lovely; a tranquil oasis with attractive planting and palm trees. The pool itself is of a decent size and clean. Around it are arranged 6 sun lounger/umbrella "sets". The 12 sun loungers are well-cushioned and comfortable. Between the pool and the beach there are a further 4 deckchair/umbrella "sets". Sadly, the deckchairs are not comfortable.

Which leads me to the first (and perhaps most serious) negative point. When the resort is full, these facilities are woefully inadequate for the number of guests. Consequently, competition for sun loungers is intense and there is an early-morning race to “get towels on beds”. One morning all the sun loungers were taken by 7:10am! A couple with 2 kids who "bagged" 4 (of the 12) sun loungers early, then disappeared for 6 hours on a day-trip, exacerbated the shortage. So, unless you are prepared to compete in an early-morning towel race, you can forget about lounging around the pool sunbathing and reading all day (or even for an hour or two) which for many is an essential part of their holiday. I think that the management needs to fix this; there is plenty of space for more sun loungers.

The beach in front of the resort is excellent, with no rocks. During our 2-week stay, the sea was clean, calm and safe. On one day only, there were some small jelly-fish, which I understand is not unusual at full-moon.

The second negative point is that all but 2 of the 16 rooms are very close to the road that runs past the resort, separated from it only by a high concrete wall. The wall is effective in keeping out a lot of general road noise, but your pillow is no more than 5m from the edge of the road and the wall does not insulate you from the scream of the occasional high-powered motorcycle. To be fair, the road is not that busy, especially at night, but if you are unaccustomed to road noise, you may find it disturbing. Personally, I was awoken every morning between 6:00 and 7:00 by motorcyclists on their way to work, but then again, this was handy for the towel-race!

The Thai food (we didn't try any Western dishes) served in the restaurant for lunch and dinner is very good and is definitely a cut above the local eateries, most of which serve dumbed-down Thai cuisine designed not to offend Western tastes. The food in the Andalay is genuine Thai with intense clean flavours and is well-cooked and well-presented. You can ask for non-spicy, medium-spicy, or as it comes; they will adjust the amount of chilli to suit you. On the downside, the resort restaurant offers a limited choice of fresh fish and lacks atmosphere at night when it was mostly empty. We ate out most nights. Our favourites for Thai food were Roi Thai (good atmosphere) and Kansa (good fresh fish). The downside is that the service in many of the local Thai restaurants is indifferent and the food was often served lukewarm, or even cold. For Western food (and good service) we recommend Yang Garden and Shanti Shanti.

The Andalay breakfast is "so-so". We were hoping for some really nice fruit but during our two-week stay we were offered only pineapple, papaya, water-melon and the occasional dragon fruit; no mangoes, mangosteens, passion-fruit, nor even bananas (all of which were widely available locally). Eggs and omelettes are cooked (well) to order, but the hot buffet is poor. The coffee is dire; which in a country that grows coffee (Thailand is ranked third coffee producer in Asia) is inexcusable.

The beach-side massage is excellent and very good value.

The resort has a lot of strengths and is very good value for money. I would score it 7/10. If they were to double the number of comfortable sun loungers and improve the breakfasts (please fix the coffee!) I would give it 9.

Room Tip: Room 112 is the farthest from the road

Great view from the room - and hotel placed right on the beach which is very nice. This is by the way the best part of there beach as other parts are very rocky, but not this part at all.
Main complaint is that there are not enough sunbeds compared to the number of guests, which is really not good enough!! Leads to a fight for beds every morning - not what you wanna waste your holiday on.
Restaurant and breakfast could be improved - not impressive!
The French bakery 5 minutes away is superb!

Having been to AndaLay four times now, we obviously like it very much. Klong Nin is probably the best beach on Lanta in terms of great sand, nice water, and being developed enough to offer various food and entertainment.

The rooms are spacious, especially 113-116, which have a nice lawn in front, and unobstructed views of the beach and ocean, instead of a pool in front like the other rooms. The rooms are nicely designed, with great bathrooms. On the downside, like before, rooms do not have toothbrushes (!), and the breakfast is so-so, like the restaurant itself. Not an issue however with great food options nearby.

We will certainly be back, again.

Room Tip: Rooms 113-116 are best, just patios and a nice lawn in front before beach starts, with no obstructio...

Andalay is a lovely resort on a great beach. My partner and stayed for four days, 2 in the suite resort room for 2 days and the sunset sea room for 2 days. The suite room is really lovely but needs a bit of tlc. The sunset sea room was better value and felt newer. The pool is very nice and the sea is great for swimming in, no rocks. I agree with the review which said that the breakfast wasn’t very good, but overall it was a great place to stay and I would definitely return. The staff were really nice and extremely helpful. Also, there are lots of restaurants and massage places nearby.

Room Tip: The Sunset Sea Room is great value
