Bad experience started right at the begining of the interactions. The bell boy doesnt bother to take entire luggage. We asked them to wait for some more luggage but they just walked off and we had to pick up rest of the luggage to my own. The staff is very bad and rude in terms of behaving with the guests. We got a feeling that they are more bothered about the foreign tourists instead on Indians. We were told on our face to finish our breakfast fast as a foreign group is about to reach for a lunch, point to be noted that this foreign group were not hotel guests but were coming only for lunch. Staff is so rude that if child plucked a flower they will come and tell parents catagorically that don't ask your child to pluck flowers. Hello !! everyone understand that flowers are not to be plucked but child is child, you dont have to say all this. No smile at all, no hospitability at all, very uncomfortable & uneasy feeling, you feel very bad when you are just treated like a second citizen in your own country. I strongly recommend to not to stay at this place. Though palace is good but the kind of comfort hospitability can give nothing else can give. The occupancy during our stay was very less though we were told that occupancy is more than 70%, and due to low occupancy no buffets were organized. Truly speaking this was the worst stay i had ever in my life till now. Please please please do not go by the pictures posted on the website, palace looks very deserted when low occupancy and you just dont see anybody around.

Room Tip: 116 is too small

The exterior and the dining room are fantastic to look at. Our room(s) was huge and clean. The bedding, towels, etc. could all use updating. Hot water was available from 5-9 am/pm. Space heaters were provided. Based on its history and the family photos and paintings on display, it's a really interesting place to stay. In the evening, we enjoyed drinks in the courtyard by a fire and a Rajasthani puppet show.

Hotel has a real regal ambience. People were cooperative and friendly. But now gives you the heritage status feel, a few conveniences like refrigerator and tea/coffee maker in the room will make it a dream destination.
Due to off-season, few services like massage was not available. No much choices in the restaurant but the taste up to the mark. There were bugs laying in the pool area due to winter it was not much in use.

Room Tip: Check the toilets before picking up the rooms

The palace is excellent especially the old part of it which is my personal favourite. I have been using this hotel for over three years now and am extremely satisfied with the food and the service. The prices are slightly on the higher end but it worth it. The rooms are spacious and the beds are extremely comfortable. By far the best place if you wish to spend a comfortable night after a day long bird watching experience in the reserve nearby.

Looking at my photos now I'm home the Laxmi Villas Palace looks stunning and my friends have cooed over the lovely room and facade.
However, the place lacked a little atmosphere. There was a band on in the evening and fires to sit around but it somehow felt a little sterile.
Our room was big and the bed was comfy, and we slept really well on both nights of our stay.

It was in a good location for Keoladeo and the grounds were lovely.

The food created my main issue. It was a buffet for both breakfast and dinner (we had a packed lunch in the day) the food was nice, but average rather than outstanding and obviously because it's a buffet you serve yourself meaning they don't need as many staff as a waited restaurant.
We were charged INR1500 pp for dinner (about £20 each) we felt it was expensive (double the price of a comparable meal in the UK) but as it was our first stay in India we had nothing to draw comparisons with.
On our return home I queried it with our tour operator who contacted the hotel who claimed that the cost (triple the normal price) was due to the fact that it was christmas eve. There was no indication that it was christmas in the whole hotel, no decorations, no music, no one said 'Merry Christmas' etc but they felt it appropriate to overcharge for dinner. They also charged us INR750 pp for a packed lunch (approx £10 each) for what amounted to 2 paratha, a carton of juice, a banana and a vegetable pattie.

I have emailed the hotel to ask them to explain their 'celebration' of Christmas in terms of increased prices but in no other respect but they have not responded.
