We expected Almond Tree to have a garden at sea, but you cannot reach the sea. We were in the Nanny room and the room was cosy and clean. The room is near the hall and you can here the staff all the time talking and laughing. Wich is 6 o'clock in the morning a bit disturbing. . But still i recommend this hotel. Breakfast is good with always a plate of fresh fruit. Also our vegatarian dinner was good.
The staff is friendly, always asked if the food was enough and good. We really enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The bathroom neat and clean. The Nanny room is not overpriced.

There was an air of tumbleweed about the hotel but perhaps that is slightly unfair as we were the only guests. We had not realised before booking that the hotel is really out of town and although you can see the sea from the hotel, there is a stretch of scrubland in between the hotel and the sea. Some of the staff were helpful others not particularly so - almost rude. The information in the room says you can order dinner up to 6.30pm and on one day we asked the reception desk at about 5pm whether we could order dinner and if so when we should order by. The answer was that dinner could be whenever we wanted it to be. When we returned to reception at 6.01pm we were told it was too late!! There is, however, an excellent place to eat called Eli's Spot just opposite. The rooms are very overpriced and note that if you pay for a room with a seaview the balcony has security bars across like you are in prison - the garden view rooms are nicer but most of the rooms are quite dark. If you have to stay in Elmina this hotel is probably not a terrible choice as it is out of the centre which can be a bit intimidating particularly around the castle, but by choice there are much nicer places to stay in nearby Cape Coast.

Room Tip: the bob marley room looked the nicest but is also the most expensive. The sea view rooms have security bars on so the garden view rooms are probably nicer,.

Don't waste your money here. The management will try to nickel and dime you wherever they can (no concept of customer service and good business practices). The hotel is dark and depressing, and more expensive than other guest houses in the area (try the coconut grove bridge house--20 cedi less and much nicer). It is far from the beach, and the action of Elmina (but not in a peaceful way). Perhaps it has seen better days.

What attracted us to this guest house was that they were Jamaicans running a guest house in Ghana and this intrigued us to make a booking with them.
What a warm, welcoming environment!!! You can not go wrong with this place - as soon as you walk into the place, you feel at ease!!!
The guest house is around 15 mins walk from central Elmina and such a lovely walk too!!!
Good place to be to visit Cape Coast and surrounding historical sites or places of interest.
All staff are friendly and helpful and ensure that your individual requests are met as far as possible.
The rooms are large and spacious, with a good sized bathroom (shower curtain needed though).
Breakfasts and Evening meals are good with variety.
The only thing we thought was needed in the room was a fridge.
Definitely, a place to visit again!!!!
Byron & Sonia - what a great place you have - keep up the great work

This 10-room guest house next door to the large, expensive but poor value Elmina Beach Resort is a labor of love of Sonia and Byron Lye-Fook, transplanted Jamaicans from the UK. The immaculate rooms are charmingly decorated in light and bright colors with African carved headboards, each room featuring twin beds (pushed together, with rather hard foam mattresses on wooden slats), bedside tables, TV on a table, settee, extra chair or two, and a private balcony with table and chairs. Additionally, there are upstairs and downstairs balconies that look over a lovely garden. Affordably priced, though the GHc17 for breakfast seems a bit much for the basic fare that's offered, and the single packet of Nescafe provided. (We asked for an additional packet and received it graciously.) If there's not a lot of water coming out of the tap(s), be sure to ask for the water pump to be turned on.The prioprietors are on a mission to not just train their staff, but to help them evolve as productive members of society, and Sonia's passion for her work is evident in her hospitality.
