Hacienda Pinsaqui is simply the nicest hotel I've stayed at. It's an 18th-century manor house that belonged to one of Ecuador's first families. As a private house, it hosted dignitaries like Simon Bolivar and Frieda Kahlo. In particular, the manor house rooms are amazing: fireplaces and grand rooms, plus several lovely lounges and reading rooms. Simply spectacular. The 2 wings of rooms outside the main house aren't quite as nice, but lovely grounds make up for it. This is a place you absolutely must stay when you visit Ecuador. I've stayed in a lot of hotels and this is one of the best ever.
