“Relaxing stay by the sea”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2011

We had a great stay at this hotel. The room with a sea view has astonishing view on the bay&cliffs, the staff at the restaurannt is always helpful similing and just great. Overall, very professional customer service and enjoying atmosphere in the hotel. However there are mostly German older couples there, so if you need to have fun and you're under 50, it's not the place. We wanted to lay down by the pool and relax, so it was just what we needed.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of a 2 week driving holiday in Croatia. I loved the hotel and thought the quiet location was really nice though it could be quite tricky without a car. The room was nice and big, comfortable, plenty of storage, clean, with air-con, nice shower/bath, balcony, fridge TV (all German channels, lots of Germans here!) nice breakfast, good service great! There is ample parking and it was a great base to explore the rest of the island and to visit Rab Town which is a must.

After reading the other reviews about noise in some of the rooms overlooking the pool, I specifically requested a quiet room with views to the forest if necessary and that is exactly what I got and it was perfect, nice quiet room you could just about see the sea through the trees and it was nice and peaceful. If you want peace and quiet make the same request and I am sure if they have availability they will pick the right room for you.
The hotel has it's own private beach which has great snorkelling and beautiful clear blue water. (It's a good idea to take/buy some rubber shoes when in Croatia as the beaches are pebbly everyone wears them and the rocks/pebbles are why the sea is sooo blue!)
The buffet food was nice just don't leave it til the end of serving to eat or there will be limited food and as someone else said grab a drink at the bar before sitting down!
The entertainment is not great and the DJ very cheesy which actually made the hotel feel really really dated. I think the entertainment needs a revamp but hey it's difficult to please everyone so hop in your car to Rab Town and spend the evening there!
We would go back to this hotel and would recommend it.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room request one with a forest view (these are one of the ones on the side of th...

This hotel really grew on us - 6 day stay having spent idyllic week at Hotel Istra, Rovinj with our teenage son. Beautiful location - access to sea via rocks/beach extends right around headland and provides exceptional snorkelling in crystal clear waters. Please don't swim here and not snorkel! You would be missing out on another world. Compact layout - pool is right in front of hotel and from there just a few steps down to excellent beach bar/restaurant and on to the rocks - several access points either by pebbly beaches, rocks or step ladders. Self-service buffet breakfast was ample and varied and so was dinner, albeit a little unexciting. You do get allocated a specific table for the duration of your stay which avoids the scrum. Desserts poor. If you want good quality ice cream for example you won't find it here but you can get good ice creams/desserts at the beach bar which is owned by hotel - curious. Bar staff very attentive and friendly/efficient - slightly strange system at dinner where a waiter with a trolley of drinks comes round to offer ( a limited selection) of drinks - and you pay at the end of dinner. We found it was easier to pick up drinks at the bar first and take them through otherwise you could be waiting a while before drinks arrived having already eaten a starter. Good selection of cocktails - available on the outside terrace by the pool after dinner - good value too - between 25 - 38 Kuna, so typically less than a fiver. Coffees also good value. We had a great day out in Rab - free water taxi as a hotel guest (20 mins each way) which you pick up within 5 mins stroll from hotel. We took swimming gear - you can swim from the sea wall at Rab - very clean and clear waters and much needed on a 33deg day! Now to the only flaw in our view - the nightly entertainment. This took place outside at one end of the swimming pool terrace - on all bar one of the nights we were there. No objection in principle to entertainment - provided if you don't fancy it you can go elsewhere for a quiet drink. BUT - there is no escape - the music provided by the house band was beyond cheesey - and too loud (as rock fans in our early 50s we have no problem with volume in the right setting!). Worse, if you are in one of the rooms overlooking the swimming pool you can't escape there either as a) you are right over the music and b) there is no double glazing so you get full volume in your rooms - until 11:30 or later. To be fair the music volume/quality did vary ( first night latino light was exceptionally loud) and one night of traditional Croatian music was good). If we were to book again (despite comments re entertainment I can see us returning one day) we would definitely choose a room at the front of the hotel - not such a great view (but you still see the sea, albeit over the car park) - but at least you can get away from the entertainment if you want to. Overall a very enjoyable week, and as another reviewer said - don't miss out on the other beach bar at the end of the little harbour ( just 2 mins from front of hotel) - very chilled - as is beach bar in woods around 300 m from the harbour, going away from hotel.

We can highly recommend hotel Carolina. The hotel is located on a nice part of the island, directly near a rock beach with crystal-clear, turquoise water. Due to the pine forest, there is plenty of shadowy places. We recommend the use of beach chairs (can be rented for a small amount), however, as there are some stones and tree roots. Also, like in most parts of Croatia, don't forget to bring swimming shoes to protect against pointy rocks and possible sea urchins.
The hotel staff was very friendly and welcoming at all occasions, the rooms big and comfortable equipped with TV with international channels, minibar, balcony etc.
The food was varied and good, we had half board. Breakfast and dinner were consumed in a big restaurant. It is buffet style, but served by personnel (you don't put the food on your plate by yourself at dinner, you just point to it). For lunch, there is a sort of beach-bar restaurant which looks classy and the food was excellent and the price very reasonable. One minor gripe about the restaurant was the coffee which had some strange aftertaste; however, the bar serves excellent coffee.
There are many parking spaces directly around the hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay and would very much like to come back here.
All in all, we considered the price-quality ratio as excellent.

Brilliant location on the beach, loads of actiivities: tennis, pool, crazy golf, table tennis.
Bring plastic sandals - beaches in croatia are mostly stony but the sea is amazing!
With booking.com we had an option of up grading to half board for 2.50 euros each!! Ok the food was not amazing but it was absolutely fine with plenty of choice and piles of fresh salad. Boring desserts but ice creams in rab are brilliant!
Bar by little port is very nice too!
Staff were very friendly and helpful!
Rab is great from the car ferry that takes you there for about £20 for car and 5 adults - don't be put off by the queue the ferries hold a good number of cars and run continually
