After conquering the scary access road we were rewarded by a warm welcome and excellent food.
One of the owners Ante Bistre served us while telling us a little about the restaurant and the products his family business grows and markets. They produce olive oil, figs, chestnuts and truffles for export to the Borough market in London, stores in Scotland and elsewhere in Europe.
We were fortunate to be able to sample some of it. Superb homemade ravioli with truffles and a traditional Croatian dessert, strukla with figs and truffles, an amazing combination.
The restaurant is decorated with antique farming implements and a small shop sells some of the family's produce.
When Ante said farewell he pointed out all the landmarks twinkling across the water from Rijeka to Opatija. We left feeling we had spent the night with a friend.
The road down seemed much shorter and we wondered why we had felt apprehensive on the ascent.
