The accommodation was great with nice interior décor and the small balcony was a nice feature. The food and beverage offerings lack availability though. The café was spacious offer great breakfast spread. The serving staff are inconsistent with service attitude. Some are very welcoming while a couple of them need further training. We booked a club room but there is no club lounge to differentiate the room categories.

Room tip: no need to book club rooms

Stayed twice in this hotel as part of tour of Jiuzhaigou. Both were 2 night stays and the first one was in 2007. For the current visit, tour guide said rooms were better in buildings 5 and 6 and we stayed on 7th floor of building 5. Perhaps we were in the tour group wing.

Room was way worn out. Clearly signs of wear and tear. Problem with decorating the hotel in fake antique Victorian-esque or Chinese period is that once the props began to age, the whole room looked ancient.

Shower water had a leak from the wall of the stall. From the caulking used, evidently repairs weren't successful. Didn't bother to call housekeeping as obvious it's not a short term fix. Carpet was worn and had stains.

Had 90min massage at the spa. Again, facilities looked dated and locker rooms, guest clothing etc didn't look fresh. Clearly over a decade old. Service wasn't particularly attentive.

Breakfast buffet was uneventful and mainly had Chinese food.

Internet was terrible for wifi. Might be better to bring own wireless access point and use the hotel Ethernet to avoid traffic congestion for hotels in China.

See it's rated #1 so clearly choices are limited in this scenic area. But don't expect equivalent to Intercontinental standards.

I came here with very high expectation. first of the rank, recommended by friend so I fly over and choose this hotel as the place to stay while visiting Jiu Zhai Gou.
I am very disappointed with the hotel, warm welcome from reception and my disappointment start with the room.
hotel got a lot of sign wrong, when state push it mean pull, tape was installed in random way so you need to try witch way can open it. bedlinen was not replaced when we move in, so we have to use whatever previous guest has used. second morning inform reception the bedlinen need to be changed as my father found un-known sticky liquid inside the quilt cover, but till we come came back from our trip of the day, it only been tidy up but still not replaced. my father feels really sick about that he even can not sleep in the night with that, but even called still not been replaced is not acceptable. there are also small issue such as bottled water not been replaced but after called it has been replaced.
second is about the swimming pool, our kids are so expected to swim in the pool as when I show them the hotel picture, a big swimming pool is in the very obvious position on their advertisement. however, we were told swimming pool is under maintenance and cannot be used, we can use one of their hot spring water pool instead but in there only warm water, our kids are so disappointed about it but accept will go there and try. upon arrive the spa, staff there said they are not aware there is such arrangement and have to call the manager in charge, manager there informed yes we can use it but water is not "that warm". and they all emphasis that we are not allow to step in the hot spring water pool as we did not pay for that, we are aware and not deserve to be treated as thief, okay? I have stayed in many good hotels but this is the first time I feels I was kept under someone's notes to monitor closely in case we take advantage to step in their "fantastic" hot spring water pool. I just would like to point out we did not pay less because your swimming pool under maintenance so we paid for a service but did not receive it, which is not fair for hotel guests we deserve an apology rather than been informed something cannot be used. not mention the closely monitor to us is additional insulting.
I feels I need to talk to the hotel duty manager after all of these unpleasant events, so I met him personally and told him about what had happened to our stay in the hotel. he is very nice and apology for all of that, and offered a fruit plate but I refused. after 10 minutes, my door was knocked and an housekeeping lady came in with a carton of spring water, I can tell she is very pissed as I guess she was blamed because of my complaint, but A CARTON of spring water?!!, such an insult to me, do I really need your carton of spring water? to me a good hotel is about the service and carefully thought for what client need, and I do not feel it at all, unfortunately I have to stay in this hotel for one more night, but I can not wait to leave here already.

I stayed here with my whole family recently for a night and we all loved it. We had spent the day with the crowds at the park, so to drive up to this mountain lodge in the snow was wonderful.
We loved the rooms- it has a rustic feel, but it still clean and modern. Some have commented on the artificial feel and that some of the furniture looks worn. The furniture was faux Tibetan antique so that didn't bother me, but the multicolored lights on the trees was a little tacky. Other than that, it didn't feel artificial to me.
They said they gave us a suite, but I think all the rooms have the couch sitting area with a fireplace and balcony. The view from the room was amazing- you could see snowcapped mountains all the way down a long valley.
I used a Chase free night certificate and was very satisfied with what I got. They didn't included breakfast, but did give a discount on dinner and free lounge access. The dinner was good, but not worth the discounted RMB138 I paid.
The swimming pool was cold, but they have a large heated pool as well that was perfect for the kids.
As with nearly every hotel property in China, English is limited. I only used English and was ok, but I could tell they didn't always get what I was asking. Still, this hotel was no worse than others.
Were it not for this hotel, I'd probably not come back to Jiuzhaigou, but the experience there made it the kind of place I'd love to come back to for a weekend. I have stayed in many hotels and this is one of my all-time favorites.

I visited this hotel with a Chinese friend. It was a pretty hotel and the staff were kind, but there was very little western style food and the bathroom furniture was looking really worn out. Also, note that it is NOT close to Jiuzhaigou park. The best part of my stay was the Tibetan singing and dancing performance each night. The performers were very talented and their traditional costumes were beautiful. The Tibetan performance was the only advantage to experiencing the same mountain beauty found in the Canadian Rockies. However, if you choose to stay here, my suggestions are: 1) bring your own Western food; 2) bring a Chinese translator; 3) don't expect any nearby shopping during the low season; 4) buy extra water in the gift shop because you can't drink the tap water and the hotel provides only 2 bottles per day in your room; 5) expect culture shock at area attractions where tourists push and shove and can't stand in lines; 6) expect to be stared at and have your picture taken; 7) if you can't sleep on a very firm mattress, ask for some extra duvets to cushion the mattress; 8) expect taxi drivers to disregard traffic rules and possibly go over a cliff (it happened the week before my visit); 9) don't expect spa services before 5 pm and do expect really high massage prices; 10) arrive at Juizhaigou park after 10 am to avoid extremely long lines at the entrance; 11) try not to leave Jiuzhaigou park early in the day because buses taking you back to the entrance only come once an hour; 12) don't expect to use a bathroom in Juizhaigou park without waiting in a line of 50+ people even during the low season.

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at InterContinental Resort Jiuzhai Paradise and sharing your detailed experiences. We really appreciate your opinions over our property and we will definitely improve our food varieties in the coming days. And the opening hours of Tianyu SPA will be adjusted according to the hotel occupancy, which we hope you can understand. The landscape in Jiuzhaigou park and Jiuzhai Paradise are quite different in each season with different kind of natural beauty. And there are still so many places and activities for you to experience. We sincerely wish you can come back again to see that. Last but not least, our GRO team and duty managers will be more than happy to serve you in English and assist you with your trip. Looking forward to meet you again. Thank you and have a nice day.
