During my 8-day trip on China's Silk Road in Xinjiang and Gansu provinces, I stumbled with a fantastic Silk Road Dubhuang hotel that greatly impressed me. The strengths of this hotel include 1) excellent service that has far superior to other Chinese hotel in the far western area of China (Xinjiang and GAnsu); 2) well decorated hotel will many details that makes the hotel become a remindful cahracter of Silk Road and sensationally reflects the outstnading history of Dunhuang's world's class attraction, the Mogao Grottoes; 3) great location outside the city yet has porximity to and with the great view of the famous Ming Sha Shun desert. However if you like to walk inside the centre of the Dunghuang city, this hotel may lack that given the location is quite far from the city.

For the room the decoration is up to standard but may not be called "luxury" hotel that you can find in major cities of China. But remember that in the western states of China, this hotel has much better service and decoration than all other hotels that I have stayed.

Room Tip: Don't miss two places - Mogao grotto and a camel ride either at sun rise or sun set at Ming Sha...

Absolutely can not fault this hotel. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Free Wifi in lobby. Excellent breakfast. Slightly more expensive than anywhere else but worth it. Also worth getting a room overlooking the sand dunes. Saves getting up very early to watch the sun rise! Rooms very clean and well stocked. Awesome all round!

This hotel was one of 6 or so we stayed at during our 3 week China journey. This hotel offered excellent service, in fact, the assistant manager, Eric, actually filled in for us as a guide when no English-speaking guide was available for an all day trip to see the Yandan Landforms and the western end of the Great Wall!

The lobby is spacious, clean, bright. The rooftop restaurant has amazing views of huge sand dunes and good food. Our room was a double room, like adjoining rooms with two bathrooms and a shared living room. There is an Internet connected computer in the room and included in the price, a welcomed touch. Hotel staff was accommodating, using their English as they could to help us enjoy our stay.

There are bikes to rent at the hotel. It is not too far from the sand dunes and the crescent lake...which was quite touristy. You need to take taxi to get into town, and the night market is worth going to!

We would not hesitate to stay here again or to send friends to this hotel!

We really enjoyed a gin and tonic watching the sunset from this great roof-top cafe. The hotel is built in the style of Han dynasty architecture, a beautiful building and the rooms were nice and clean. The breakfast was good with a nice selection of food. The Magao caves are a 'must see', any other 'Thousand Buddha Caves' after these are very second best

As has been reviewed, this hotel is the epitome of a Silk Road trip. Right next to the towering sand dunes, this place brings alive the romance of the desert. But it is more than that. As we went further west, we realised the last place we had a decent western breakfast and good chinese food was at this hotel. Money changing was also avaiable at good rates. The main hotel block is rather expensive but booking through Expedia one can get rooms at their lower end block for more reasonable rates like USD$43/- per room per night. The rooms while not so well decorated in the Tang style, are clean and of a good size. There are also laundry poles in the courtyard to this block so a mid journey washing can be done. There is also a youth hostel in the same complex but I am not sure if foreigners can book them. They also have a free shuttle service to the night market in town and on the night when we wanted to go and their van was not available, they promptly got a cab for us at their expense. Great service!
