Very practical but expected more

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 30 July 2024via mobile
The practical nature of this hotel is wonderful as you are perched high on Huangshan in an ideal location to explore the top of the mountain and take in the sunset, sunrise and all the hiking opportunities in the area. The staff are mostly helpful and it is clean.

On the downside, it is incredibly expensive for what you get, the rooms are quite pokey, and the food options are very limited and just average. It is also a shame that they allow smoking inside some parts of the hotel.

    Excellent experience!
Make the most of your stay here by climbing Turtle Peak for the sunset and Bright Peak for the sunrise. We were extremely well looked after by Xiao Ye who reminded us of times to wake up and helped us plan our route down. The rooms are simple and comfortable. The food is reasonably priced especially since it’s all carried up by foot. Will visit again!

Room tip: Try the Costa Coffee here!

There are limited accommodation choices in Huangshan mountain and so it is quite expensive for what it is. We stayed here for one night and it was adequate for what we needed. We wanted a place to stay that was close to the sunrise spots such as Stone Monkey Watching the Sea. It took roughly 15-20 minutes to walk there in the morning. Get there early to get a good spot! The hotel itself provides coats in their rooms if you need another layer.

The room was ok, shower temperature was fine, their beds were a little hard and wifi was not great. The breakfast buffet was included in the room price we paid for. We paid for the room online and they needed a 100CNY deposit when we arrived which we got back when we checked out. For dinner we had the all you can eat dinner buffet which costed 140CNY.

This hotel is up in the Yellow Mountains and you only can get there hiking! And it is a long way up from the cable car with many stairs to reach the hotel (it took us 2 ½ hrs). It means also that everything that is needed in the hotel, all food, etc has to be carried up by the locals as well. I recommend staying over here for the night because otherwise you don’t have enough time to enjoy the yellow Mountains fully.
The hotel itself is old and dated, rooms and bathrooms the same, but the bed was good. There is simply no other choice than staying here or you have to go back the same day with the cable car.

Location: 2 hours walking down to Yuping cable car, or 3 hours walking upwards from Yuping cable car station. Xihai cable car station is 5 min from hotel. Therefore, it's a good location choice for 2nd night (1st night Beihai hotel) or for those wishing to stay only one night in Huangshan.
Rooms: small, clean, modernized with bidet toilet. No aircon but with heater, in summer, a fan is provided, making it less stuffy. Beds were hard, but sleepable after exhausting hike. No elevator in the new building.
There is a cafeteria style diner 5 min walk from hotel, with very messy service but OK flavor + cheaper food. Head to the diner once they open, or you'll have to fight the tour groups to get served... not pleasant.
Staff: very helpful and friendly. There is also a massage parlor downstairs from lobby.

We chose to stay at Baiyun hotel for its proximity to the Xihai Grand Canyon tram, Fairy Walking Bridge and Bright Summit. the hotel building and facilities are old but we had everything we required in the room. The drying rack in the room was very effective for drying our wet clothes, umbrellas are provided in the room, also toiletries and toothbrushes and slippers. Complimentary coffee and tea also provided in the room. The most unexpected feature was the sparkling new modern automated toilet with heated toilet seat and bidet functions. Great for cold weather!

Breakfast is included, but dinner and lunch costs additional. We ate lunch at the canteen in Block C (Rmb 70 per pax) and the buffet dinner at Block A (Rmb 140 per pax). There is plenty of food in the buffet but taste could be better. Note that the main lobby, restaurant and hotel rooms are located in Block A.

The most memorable part of our stay was the warm service provided by 李家敏,the customer service rep assigned to our room. She brought us to our room and set up the heater for us to dry our clothes and even put the kettle on to make tea. She also sent us pictures of the canteen and restaurant menus, provided weather updates and suggestions on walking routes from the hotel. Even after we had left the hotel, she sent a message to check that we had safely reached our destination. Our overall impression of the hotel is greatly lifted by our encounter with 李家敏。
