the place has good reviews so we gave it a try. It has a great location and we paid extra for a room overlooking the fortress but these two are the only advantages the place had to offer us.

The staff is very cold and formal and also sloppy in their looks. Not a good face for the hotel. At least the girls at the front desk could have combed their hair when serving people!

The rooms were small and not cleaned daily( except the beds), the TV was so very small and offered very little variety for the non local visors. The breakfast offered was so plane, not varied at all and was served in a sloppy way and was cold. The decoration of the hotel, dining room and the lobby was ancient old fashioned and unappealing.

The worst part was that they had only one (yes, only 1!!!) tiny elevator that could not fit more than 3 people so we had to wait endlessly in order to get around with baggage.

Make sure you don't lose any of the keys or towels because they will be glad to charge a ridiculous penalty fee.

Definitely a disappointment !!!

Room tip: you can get a room overlooking the fortress but know that there is a train passing so it can be pretty loud.

- top location, in the Veliko Tarnovo center, with a stunning view over the Tsarevets and Yantra River
- the location helps allows you to move quick in all directions, even out of the city, reaching Arbanasi in 10 minutes
- very professional personnel, from the valets helping you with the luggage, the receptionists, the waitress from the downstairs cafe-bar to the cleaning ladies and the restaurant staff
- very well maintained hotel (despite the fact that it's an old hotel), the designs from the lobbies, rooms, restaurant are classic style, in a perfect match with the view and the atmosphere
- very large, spacious double room, well equipped: normal beds, table with armchairs, closet etc
- very large, spacious bathroom, also well equipped and very clean
- lobby from the reception with fireplace, comfortable couch and armchairs and an exceptional view
- the pool is small comparing with other hotels but there are not many hotels with pool in Veliko so it's nice to have it and to use it, very clean area, water not very warm but you can enjoy it
- outside elevator, the same view of Yantra River and Tsarevets, very nice to use it when you want to go to the restaurant, or pool or just go outside the hotel
- very good food, at breakfast but also a-la-cart, you can taste Bulgarian traditional dishes and most important is that the restaurant is located on the river and fortress side
- the cafe bar from the same floor with the reception serves frappe, lemonades, cafe and some sweets specialties, very very tasty
- Free Wi-Fi signal in the rooms and common spaces, quite good signal

- in the pool area the showers are in a wrong location, it's civilized to take a shower before and after using the pool but you have to wait because it's located in the same area with the toilet, at the end of the locker room
- the heating system is rather difficult to control, outside temperature was like Spring, not snowing at all, but in hotel was extremely hot, even with the heating off

Yantra grand hotel located minutes from Veliko Tărnovo castle. And right at the foot step of the Old Town. It simply cannot be any more convenient. The hotel was a bit dated. Bed was so so. Staff were friendly

Travelled with my wife through Bulgaria by motorbike in early October.
As our final stop we chose Veliko and booked Yantra hotel on booking.com due to location and positive reviews.

We asked for a safe parking spot for the big bike and they went out of their way and offered their locked from inside garage turned storage room at ground level in the hotel.
This was full of stuff and i ended up taking up half the available space but they were happy so i was happy too, one less worry on my mind.

This hotel seemed quite old and very well built into the top of the hill, and it is a cultural monument of the city.
Very nice place with stone walls, wood panels and dark hallways typical of a bygone era.

Great view overlooking the Tsarevets fortress on the hill, the Yantra river and its gorge.
This view from our room was duplicated everytime we descended into the restaurant.

We had a decent sized room with twin windows, old furniture but functional, and a very tired springy mattress.
Bathroom was ok, cleanliness not the best but certainly not an issue.

The perfect spot to enjoy this ancient settlement with easy access to the old town and the landmarks on the hills.
Everything within walking distance so no need to use your car/bike at all, once/if you find a parking space as parking in front of the hotel is very limited.

Lots of guests arrive by bus anyways and Veliko is certainly becoming a very busy tourist destination.
And so it should be as it has lots to offer particularly nice establishments with lots of spas and great cuisine.

Breakfast was comprehensive and of decent quality, but for better dining we recommend you eat out especially at our favourite: Shtastliveca 10 min away.

The staff at the front desk was very helpful and we were given a complimentary late/r checkout than usual to squeeze in more sightseeing during our final day. All this taking into account they have new arrivals every hour.

After a full day in your room what better place could you enjoy the fortress light show from?

We really enjoyed our stay at the Yantra. The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. The room was so spacious and the views over to the old fort were amazing. It was a nice short walk up to the bazaar area. The dining area was nice and we were delighted to get to watch the light show from the balcony during dinner. Breakfast was quite good. My only negative was the evening meal which was very mediocre. The presentation is attractive but the food was poor, tough meat, dry chicken. A good dessert however. Parking was so convenient.

Room tip: Be sure to get a room looking out to the fort and on an upper floor.
