I had never stayed at Rio de Janeiro centre before, and this experience was really great. The hotel is quite new, well located, near Santos Dumont airport (regional flights only) and the historical centre, with many historical attractions (Teatro Nacional, Biblioteca Nacional, Confeitaria Colombo, Arcos da Lapa, Cinelândia...), as well as the the Metro station, within walking distance. The location is very convenient for business trip and excellent for turism, but only on weekdays. On weekends, the city centre becomes dangerous for pedestrians. Excellent breakfast buffet. Considering that Rio de Janeiro has the highest hotel prices in Brazil, the Asturias is quite fair.

The Windsor Asturias is in the Centro district (Cinelandia), a bit away from the beaches and general tourist crowd. What I really liked about this hotel is the friendly and professional service - it was not a problem to check in at 10am (after an overnight flight), and staff were very helpful. Great value too: only €108 per night, including breakfast (through Expedia). Other pros: it is clean and quiet. I had an 'executive' room with Jacuzzi as the other rooms were sold out.The rooms are rather sparsely furnished, small conveniences like a reading light or comfy chair would have been nice. The rooms come with a good safe, minibar (good prices), and WIFI is available, but quite expensive and slow. The hotel is in a fairly safe part of town, but is right next door to the (in)famous Lapa district where you can spend the whole night enjoying the crowds, food, music and drinks. Hotel is also only one street away from the Subway. The view from the roof top bar and terrace is great, but unfortunately the bar wasn't staffed at any of the nights I went up there.

Room Tip: Try to get on the highest floor, both for the view and the nosie outside. The building that the hote...

Recently returned from business trip where stayed at this property. For my meetings...quite convenient, as was walking distance. However, being in Centro almost everything shuts down at end of business day so options for outside food and drink are limited. Breakfast buffet is of good value, but lunch and dinner prices are a bit steep given location, atmosphere and quality. Cost for internet seemed a bit out of touch for today's hotels - although may have been average for area. Room was smallish and sparse but comfortable. Elevators were spastic in that they like to stop on random floors. NO IRONING kit in room (fail) so any pressing needs to be sent out at quite an expense. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Rooftop bar/pool offers amazing views of city and mountains - hint...go up at sunset. TV offering was good. Windows open (nice).
Taxis to the beaches will run about $20-30 each way, depending on time and traffic.

Room Tip: Stay on an upper floor to minimise street noise.

I recently stayed in this hotel this past weekend and I was pleased with everything. The neighborhood is not much to look at but it is close to other pretty areas. The subway is only 5 minutes away and it is on the mainline to all of the popular areas. If you don’t want to pay the high hotel prices that the pretty areas have then stay at Windsor Asturias. The hotel was nice inside and the staff was very friendly. My room was cozy and the shower was amazing. I could have stayed in the shower for hours. The hotel is close to some really good restaurants and you will actually run into a lot of locals at these eateries. Why go to another country to search out other tourist?

stayed at the Asturias late June 2011 -

Plusses include: responsive staff, fairly new and well kept hotel, central location near Metro and classic restaurants such as the Cinelandia ; excellent view from the roof bar ; great little shops and restaurants around

Negatives: dodgy immediate neighbourhood ; rooms a bit small ; no bathtubs ; rooftop bar was sporadically staffed ; cheap little small soap bars

Price was about $195 (including taxes) per night when I stayed there - booked thru Expedia

Room Tip: ask for an upper level room - street noise and parties can get loud at lower levels
