Owner description: Avenida Atlantica, with the iconic wavy sidewalk mosaic of Roberto Burle Marx, is ideal for strolling along Copacabana Beach. It is lined with beachside kiosks offering refreshments such as a chilled coconut, and at the far end is a quaint area where fishermen bring their fresh catch ashore.

The Avenue is longer than 5 km and goes along the whole Copacabana Beach. It is wide, plenty of beach bars, great view on Pao de Acucar, traditional market near lifeguard posto 5 every evening, nice stroll during day time and early evening. Be careful early morning and late evening when the place gets a large share of homeless people, young gangs. Could become pretty unsafe.

This is a negative review based on most of my Brasilaero friends about the current safety of Rio. There are a lot of young gangs that may rob you on the most frequent tourist areas like the beach, Avienda Atlantica, and now even Nossa Senhora de Copacabana.

I would recommend you wait until you hear that the police have gained control of the tourist areas. I have spent a lot of time in Rio and even I would no longer visit Copacabana. I am sorry to write this review because I love Rio but when I visit Brazil now I avoid visiting Rio. There are a lot of great places to visit in Brazil but Zona Sul in Brazil is just not where you want to go right now. Ipanema might be a little safer but I am not going to visit there either until I hear the police have really cracked down on the teenage gangs.

Lucky to stay at a Hotel @ Atlantica in the one of the ends near Paso de Azucar. So easy to get to other beautiful neighborhoods of Rio!

The name is "COPACABANA BEACH" one of the must famous beaches in the world. Why? There is 24/7 people around, during the day to be on the beach and enjoy the ocean, the cold beers and the people around you. After the sun is down people are jogging, playing football, volleybal, foot volley and other sports every were. Professionals and beginners. Its a nice to see the people doing there workouts, and for sure you want to participate! During the evening there is the nightlife with all kind of entertainment in the Copacabana neighborhood. Many restaurants, for each budget. Walk the 5 km long beach during the day and during the night, you will see the difference. Famous hotels like the Copacabana Palace, Marriott, Sofitel, Rio Othen and the Hilton.
You can visit the restaurants of the hotels, they are not so expensive as you might think! They have good offers.
During the day they are looking nice and during the night even better and romantic.
There is a lot of things to do and to see...... bars , restaurants, locals who try to sell all kind of stuff and ...... people/ Take a seat at one of the kiosks ( Skol near post 4 is the best with always live music!) and look and forget life for a while, enjoy.
Is it safe, is a question the ask me all the time, special after the bad publicity about the favelas (why the news is more interested in bad then in good news?) I can say Yes, its safe but everywhere in the world where is a lot of people (tourists) there are other people looking to for your expensive belongings - keep them in the hotel safe - and take extra attention on your cel phone.

The Avenida is an incredible road between a line of hotels and apartments and the superb Copacabana beach. It is very busy so needs respect, but has a great cycle facility(2-way) and fantastic promenade which runs for miles and includes an array of bars and pizzerias.
This is a must- plan an hour or so just to stroll up and down or sit in a bar to watch the Carioca ( citizens of Rio) going past.
