Of course, you could call it bad luck, but when I arrived in 7:30pm from a 20-hour journey, there was no water in the hotel (until 6:10am the next morning) and 30 minutes later the hotel (and the whole area around) was left without internet connection too - until next evening. Unbelievably bad experience in that sense... Adding the really noisy air conditioner and the fact you could hear all sounds from the connected room (you can guess what they were, even though I wonder how could one engage in sex in a hot summer night when you don't even have running water), you could call this a nightmare - but in the end I don't remember it like this 2-3 weeks later...

And that's because this place is unique. Located in a late 18th century house, built on a very steep slope, you enter Casa Amarelo through a long corridor dug in the rock, from where you enter an early 20th century Swiss elevator, which takes you to the reception floor. From there you have access to the rooms, which are located on several levels accessible by outdoor stairs. The view to downtown Rio is great (no view to Christ the Redeemer statue, though) and the neighbourhood is old, quiet and charming - and also safe.

I am not sure if I want to stay in this exact hotel again due to the level of comfort, but I definitely don't regret being there once, because it's an experience you can't have in a normal hotel. Would definitely recommend it for a short stay, but for more than 2 nights - no.

Dear Cliente,

We really apologize for the inconvenience.
However, the water cut and wireless connection drop are exceptional and were not our responsibility.
Despite of these unfortunate hazards, we pay special attention and care to the services and comfort offered to our guests.

Sincerely,
Casa Amarelo

Staying here you would never guess that you're two streets away from Rio's liveliest clubbing in Lapa. The suites are spacious and beautifully decorated, maintaining much of the old world charm. The lounge areas offer many peaceful options for reading or contemplating spectacular views. Staff are friendly and efficient, the service surpasses my experiences at some of the top 4 and 5 star hotels in Rio. All staff appeared to speak English well.

The hotel is an amazing place to stay in. Big cosy rooms, all very charming decorated. The location is just perfect for a stay in Rio.
The staff went all the way to make us feel at home. We had some trouble with our rented car and the staff spent hours on there own time to help us... We cannot thank them enough...

The highlight of our two week trip to brasil was the three days spent at this hidden gem of a hotel. The house is a historical marvel, the food is excellent, the rooms are great and the pool is perfect. The service is relaxed and time moves slowly here - shift down a gear to enjoy your stay.

Casa Amarelo is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed. I and my husband visited Rio in 2012 and we stayed in Casa Amarelo. The place is beautiful, the rooms are extraordinary, the hotel is very stylish and people are very kind. The only disadvantage was that the staff did not speak english only the hotel manager, who was not there all the time. the first days we used taxi to move around, but then this was a very expensive , so we decided to take the bus which was very convenient from Santa Teresa Hill. In general if I would visit Rio again I would choose Casa Amarelo once more!
