Wow, what a hotel.

Good Points:

-Excellent location
-Friendly staff, good english
-Gym isn't part of the hotel, but is next door and works on a voucher system. Nice place.
-Resturant serves nice meals, good portions
-Breakfast is good.
-Laundry is same day

Bad Points:

-WIFI is terrible, they say at the desk "All good!". No, very rarely works.
-Rooms are extremely dated, in desperate need of renovation
-Mould on the walls
-Chunks of plaster missing everywhere
-Beds are unbelivably hard
-Lifts are prehistroic
-A/C works, but extremely noisy
-Problem with the card system, doors often fail
-Open sewer runs outside the front of the hotel
-Single glazing, so traffic noise is an issue.

Room Tip: Avoid 5th floor

Plus point s:-
The bed is always freshly made up.
It is close to the beach.
It is close to a decent bar so you can eat.

Numerous minus points :-
Bed is like a brick.
Pillows are as good as a white slice of bread.
Car parking is a nightmare, prepare to lock EVERYTHING away in your car as valet parking will check everything thats not fixed.
Reception desk treat you like dirt.
Many oilfield workers use this hotel, in their working gear, boots & coveralls in dining room !!!!!!!!
Food is very basic, probably to feed the army of offshore workers in coveralls.
Rooms are very dark and depressing.
Hot showers are not available in the summer months.
Internet is free but a waste of time.

Room Tip: They advertise free wifi but it very seldom works.

Me:
I am currently working in Rio on business and will be staying in the hotel for 3-4 days. Hotels are booked via the company administrator in Rio so we don't really have a say as to where we can go.

First impression on arrival:
I arrived late in the evening and was met by a friendly receptionist. However her presentation was awful - and little did i realize this was the general standard of what was to come. The lobby is poorly furnished with what look to be office cast offs from the mid eighties. The lifts look like they are about to break at any moment - and i could be wrong but there appears to be only one lift to service the entire hotel.

The Room:
The room is poorly decorated and dirty and there has been no obvious refit or attempt to modernize since the place was built - presumably shortly after Brazil was first discovered. The layout is not user friendly. The "work area" is situated near the door which means the air conditioning has no effect as its located at the other end of the room. The bathroom was clean however its poorly furnished and is in need of updating. I was especially intrigued by the contemporary industrial look ceiling - complete with wires showing.

Catering:
I ordered a steak sandwich from room service upon arrival. This turned up 45 minutes later and looked like road kill covered in cheese. Apparently there was supposed to be a tomato along with the lettuce leaf and stale ham however i couldn't find it.
Breakfast was a dazzling collage of fried meats and sweet patisserie. The TV was blasting out the news at full volume making conversation difficult - and creating a very uncomfortable ambiance which made most patrons want to leave quickly.

I try very hard not to write bad reviews as some establishments genuinely try their best with the facilities and resources they have at their disposal - however i feel compelled to in this case. Unfortunately for me i am still here however i will hopefully get re-homed later today.

I really liked this hotel. It's a stone throw from the beach, and has an old fashioned, almost trendy feel. You feel like in the 60ies or maybe 70ies. Everything worked, and you get a little office with your room as well as a balcony. The breakfast was good with plenty of fruit and the staff very accommodating. As I was invited, I can not comment on the value for money bit. They also give you free coffee in the lobby, which is useful while waiting.

Room Tip: Ask for high up, better views from there.

The hotel is in a very bad state of conservation: the conditioned air machine is noisy, so that it is impossible to sleep with it turned on, despite the hot weather; the breakfast is disgusting; the bed sheets are dirty; the mattress and pillows are uncomfortable; there is mold on the walls.
