This is an affordable hotel, well located, but not that nice! Rooms are big, but simple decoration, old tv. It really need to be remodeled, since it is a lot older than seems in the pictures.
It was ok so far, and one mints is the breakfast buffet without options..

Room Tip: Ocean view.

The staff is stressed. The breakfast is bad and lacking alot of stuff 15 min after opening. The wifi can't support all the guests. We were lacking warm water one of the days and the hotel rooms equipment are not repaird when broken.
Only 2 people who made it worth staying there were Gustavo and Wesley from the reception. Also the only once who talked English.

Last time I stayed at Sheraton in town, hotel itself was beautifully furnitured and maintenance was very nice, but view was not attractive.

Othon Palace is contrary less expensive furniture, but nice location, nice view and convenient to access several points of sightseeing.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view!

After reading all the reviews prior to our stay , we were not expecting a 4-5 star hotel. We had also read about all the rooms above 7th floor to be in better condition and recently renovated. Upon our check-in, I casually mentioned we had read the reviews regarding the room conditions. We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the 12th floor with a small balcony overlooking the sea. The room was clean and spacious with a great view. I cannot say the standard is a European 4-5 star , however we had no complaints and enjoyed our stay. The hotel in overall was comfortable and clean but in need of renovation, which I believe is slowly being done. Some parts of the hotel also desperately needs to be health and safety checked as the rails and pool furniture are broken, which could potentially lead to an accident. We also thought the breakfast was good with good choices and the hotel staff were friendly. We didn't have any other meals at the hotel as we opt for exploring Salvador. We wanted to thank the manager Gustavo especially for going the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. He really looked after us and we wanted to say thank you!

We would highly recommend you to do the research prior to traveling to Salvador as there is plenty to do and see. Some parts can also be a bit dangerous if you are not accustom to South American ways. We personally had no problems and walked freely all over Salvador during the day exploring the city. The tour operators at the hotel sold packages that are very popular with tourist and there is long waiting time to pick up passengers from various hotels. Also they do not inform you of the extra hidden cost involved ie tourist taxes, no good value lunches or any other hidden extras etc. We were quite happy to explore the city on our own. We used the tour operator at the hotel for transportation to and from Morro de São Paulo Island which was fine. (Highly recommend a trip out there, but book a few days to explore the island as it takes about 4 hours to get there) Please note there is also a tourist tax you need to pay upon arriving into Morro de Sao Paulo which is also not included in your transport package. In overall we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and if you are not expecting luxury, but comfortable and friendly staff I would recommend this place. If you feel adventurers like us there are numerous buses stopping outside the hotel which takes you into Salvador centre. It is also a walking distance from Barra which has many sea front restaurants. Good value for the price paid and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms above 7th floor have been renovated.

The male receptionist who welcomed us was very good and professional and the layout of the hotel itself is good. The hotel is close to the beach and center, but personally Salvador is the worst place I've been to in Brazil (mainly due to high amount of road works) and I really didn't enjoy anything there other than the hotel and the Fonte Nova Areana. The breakfast was great, same with the lunch but the dinner service was hilarious. I had to order a coke 6 times before it came to me because the Bahiana was doing all the work and the other two guys didn't have a clue what they were doing, which frustrated the Bahiana but I found the funny side and it made my dinner brilliant! Overall I would stay here again, you get more than you pay for.
