This hotel seems designed more for Japanese business travelers than for foreign tourists. On the plus side, it's near the train station, clean, and quiet. The staff is friendly, helpful, and professional (as was true everywhere we stayed in Japan). But the hotel has some annoying quirks. The rooms are very small and cramped. And you can't turn off the main room light without turning off most of the other electricity in the room, including the bathroom lights. So to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, you have to either turn on the main room light or fumble through the pitch darkness. In the lobby they have free coffee, but only from 3 pm to 11 pm! That means you can't have coffee in the morning when you probably actually want it, unless you take it up to your room the night before and save it. I wouldn't stay here again if I went back to Kamakura. I'd just take a day trip from Tokyo.

Stayed here for two nights recently, very close to to the train station, but quiet, I had a room on the 10th floor unfortunately right next to the elevator, announcements from it were slightly muffled by the wall between. Bed okay, pillows very soft, had to ask for extras and was given two memory foam pillows which were very firm! Breakfast as previously noted is a choice of mostly lots of bread, the ham and cheese toasted sandwich is probably the best choice. One thing I learnt though is to remember to place your tray in the kitchen servery and not leave it on the table for staff to clear, this seems to be a thing throughout Japan if you have food served on a tray. Stay here for convenience.

Located just across the street from Ofuna Station. Ofuna itself is only 1 or 2 train stops from Kamakura, but this hotel was vastly cheaper than anything we could find in Kamakura itself, so staying here worked out exceptionally well for us. The room was small but clean and quiet. Staff was pleasant. The bed was comfortable. Shopping and restaurants surround the hotel, so you will have lots of choices for meals.

We arrived in Japan for cherry blossom season and a lot of the Japanese are also touring around, so rooms fill up everywhere earlier than usual. We chose this hotel because it's at the terminus of one of the NEX - Narita Express - trains and a short walk from the station. We wanted to go to Kamakura to sightsee, and it's a 10 minute JR train to its first station as well. So: location, location location.

As you can see, the room was tiny, took planning with my husband to move around, plus there's a lot of other misc stuff in the way: pants press, air cleaner, luggage rack. Check out how efficient the hot water kettle is - it's tucked into the end of the desk. Watch out for the chair, though - its rolling base sticks out and it's a constant tripping hazard.

The continental breakfast consisted of a cup of coffee and 1 of 6 choices of basically white bread and something - the heated ham & cheese one was marginally the best, but really these are more of a snack. So if you expect an actual breakfast of any sort, you won't find it here.

Still, at approx. $110/night, it's a bargain. Clean and quiet. I think we started to learn here that sometimes it's best to request two twin beds rather than a double - the rooms are bigger to accommodate them. I can't say for sure if that's the case in this hotel, but it's worth pursuing.

You get a lot for your money at the Sotetsu Fresa Inn - Ofuna. Take a left from the front of the Ofuna station when facing the Mcdonald's and it's a 3 minute walk.

Smallish room by western standards, but super clean, comfortable bed, desk, flatscreen TV, bath with all the essentials, slippers, pajamas, pants press, free tea service and computers in the lobby, plus laundry machines at a minimal charge if you need to do a load of wash. You can catch the Narita Express direct to the airport, so it's a great option for avoiding Tokyo hotel prices especially on your departing nights.
