I finally visited this Arlington institution and went away impressed. The menu is not massive, but has several good steak options (and some other options for those that don't want red meat). The menu has a decent price range as well: you can get a $50 steak if you like, but there are less expensive options as well. The same goes for size, cut, etc. We were both pleased with our choices and enjoyed the bottomless potatoes and creamed spinach. Our server was very knowledgeable and was very attentive, despite how busy the place was (on a weeknight).

My Mother and I decided to give these folks a try after a nice shopping trip. It sits directly across from the Residence Inn where we were staying for the week.

OMG! They were beyond pricey! We ordered the cheapest steak dinner. Their steaks are served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. Both were very good.

In their favor, they did say what the steak lacked in tenderness, the flavor would make up for it (printed on menu)...WRONG! That was the worst steak I ever had. I was embarrassed for them!

What was the service: mediocre!

We've eaten here a half dozen times or so since it opened, and I am only now getting around to writing a review. This is a good alternative to the classic DC steakhouses like Morton's, The Palm, Charlie Palmers, Capitol Grill, BLT Steak, etc. Prices are lower in general. The steaks are fine, but not quite as good as The Prime Rib on K Street. The side dishes are pretty good too, try the Brussels sprouts. My wife's salmon was a little under cooked, so the kitchen gets a demerit for that. The wine list is decent, and like the beef, the prices won't cause indigestion. Service has always been a bit spotty here - sometimes we get a good waiter, sometimes we get someone who acts as though he/she would rather be anywhere else but here. It's entirely random, I don't see a pattern but worth noting. Parking is on the street, no valet at least not on our last visit. All in all, a decent place if you need an alternative to the big corporate steak houses. I would not, however, do a corporate expense account dinner here, it's not quite as upscale as the other shops.

Sunday night dinner for 5 of us at this restaurant which we thought was soulless.
Imagine your office has been converted into a restaurant with high ceilings and box like room.
The staff were distant and remote which didn't help either. The steaks were tasty and all came with mash and spinach, no french fries available which was a shame, so beware. Interestingly there was a photo of Obama eating a burger there, no burgers on the menu either, would have thought that was an opportunity for them to exploit?
In all, not good value for money at $400

Worst meal I've had at Ray's. Waiter was too brusque or even rude. Salads were excellent. But entrees were rushed to our table before we even had finished the appetizers. We asked them to take them back and return them in a few minutes, but they refused. Waiter even said they could do that but if they'd have to recook anything he couldn't guarantee they'd be cooked to our orders! Steaks tasted excellent and were cooked properly but the meat itself had way too much gristle and fat for a "classic sirloin" on mine and at least one other person's. Just really not up to snuff.
