“Best way to spend a Saturday morning”

There's no better place to spend a beautiful spring or summer morning! It's bright, busy, and full of local life, and there's something for everyone. Grab an iced coffee and wander around the many local vendors. Pick up fresh-cut flowers, buy some artisan bread and cheeses for a mid-morning snack, and browse the unique wares ranging from handmade soap to jewelry. There's something new to see every week, so it's not to be missed.

Located on historic Market Square, the Alexandria Farmers Market is reported to be the oldest farmers market in the country and was one of the best we have been to. They had a great variety of vendors and there was an energy about the market all morning to go with the outstanding selections we saw and purchased.

The fresh produce was plentiful and amazing. (Early June visit) the vendors were very friendly. There were several cooked food vendors with a variety of cultural options to choose from. We liked everything we bought. Nice atmosphere. Well worth a stop.

We were in Alexandria on Saturday morning and our hotel recommended that we check this place out for breakfast. It is a very nice market and had a variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers on sale. From a food perspective, there were plenty of breads, muffins, and other baked good for sale. We ended up getting something a bit out of the ordinary New Zealand "hand pies" which were good. These came with a variety of fillings, egg, cheese, or meat options. All the food vendors seem to have options for those who were gluten free. There were a couple of non-food vendors (i.e. pottery, yarn, hand-made soap, etc.)

It could be that I read about this and I had higher expectations. The market is nice and the scenery is beautiful. The vegetables are really fresh and you can see they are home grown. However I was expecting something a little bit bigger.
