As we spent about 45 minutes walking through the exhibits on the first floor which are arranged in chronilogical groups a concert was going on upstairs so we got a two for one experience!.

Nicely presented displays on the history of Alexandria. A recently installed series of displays focuses on World War I. A donation of $2 per person is requested and is well worth it.

It is a very small place, but it is worth seeing as it tells the complete story of Alexandria. It has its own parking.

Nice museum with photo's about the history of Alexandria. There is a great Mercy Street exhibition, but I'm not sure if it is permanent.

Very small museum, free although they suggest a $2 donation. Relatively few real historical items. Did enjoy seeing the actual costumes worn by the PBS actors in "Mercy Street". Mercy Street was a PBS production about residents of Alexandria during the civil war. Interesting signage and stories of Alexandria residents who participated in various wars (but none of their actual belongings). 15 to 30 minutes is plenty
