We come occasionally after going to the King St Market for a brunch/lunch. The food--sandwiches, eggs benedict, french toast, etc--is consistantly good. There's a reason it's been here for so long.

We stopped in here for a break from our shopping. Everything was delicious! Many treats to choose from. Only complaint that kept it from 5 stars is that we could not find a single table that had been cleaned up to sit down, despite the fact that the majority of tables were empty. We ended up cleaning up our own table.

We stopped here for breakfast twice while visiting Alexandria for New Year's. Everything was very good, but I enjoyed the vegetable omelet most, along with the potato pancakes, which were delicious. Friendly, professional service and reasonable prices, plus the restaurant is in the heart of Old Town.

You can certainly get tired and thirsty if you spend a few hours at the Mamoth Art Center the Torpedo Factory. Luckily Bread and Chocolate has been there for more than 25 years. The coffee and hot chocolate are both very good and the breads and pastries are even better. I dare you to go to the art center and not stop by Bread and Chocolate.

I recently ate for the first time at this establishment and I was a little underwhelmed. I ordered a lentil soup that tasted fine and came with three kinds of bread that were a little dry. It was not a great meal, but OK. My friend ordered a panini that took a long time to prepare and still arrived cold. She left the bread and ate the toppings, but did not enjoy it much. When we mentioned this to our waitress she left without apologizing or responding to our concern in any way, but at checkout she gave my friend a 10% discount on her meal. It didn't feel like a satisfactory resolution. We probably won't return to this restaurant. There are too many alternatives on the same street.
