This is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The decor is nothing special and a little over priced but the food was excellent! My wife had the soft shell crab which she said was the bet she ever had and I had a very nice Duck Breast. All in all a nice place if you are in the Alexandria area.

Thank you, Jim, for taking time to write your review. We are so pleased you and your wife enjoyed your meals. Our décor was designed to evoke a true farmhouse feel which, typically, meant bare-bones or utilitarian decoration. Our prices reflect our dedication to sourcing as many of our products organically and locally, including the soft shell crabs. We hope you'll come back our way one day :-)

Definitely recommend it but could have been 10% cheaper. Really a trendy place with tons of tables of 20 and 30 somethings. It's configured like someone's house so real estate is premium, and the parking situation left something to be desired, but we were in a semi private room upstairs and had a wonderful brunch.

Thank you, MNataro, for taking time to write this great review :-) We are pleased you found our vibe fun and our food unique. Parking can be tough on the weekend in Del Ray but we are one of just a handful of restaurants that has it's own parking lot. Ultimately, we are just happy that enjoyed yourself while you were here!

This was our first visit to the Del Ray Cafe and we had a good evening. We did not realize that the restaurant was upstairs because it is difficult for two of my friends to use stairs and there is no elevator. Perhaps the restaurant should let this be known on their website so patrons could request a main floor table. There are a few tables on the main floor but the atmosphere is not inviting. And the porch was way too casual for a nice dinner. The hostess wasn't very welcoming—didn't say hello or seemed to care if we were there. Maybe she was having a bad night. She made no effort to seat us on the main floor even though she know the stairs were difficult for my friends.

The noise was a huge problem and would be the biggest reason we would not return. We all wished they could do something about the noise! The food, however, was excellent and organic. The waiters were nice and professional. We enjoyed large salads and escargot for starters, and rabbit and scallops for our main dishes. The apple tart was good, but not fabulous. I would order a different dessert.

We enjoyed a small carafe of wine, but did not know what brand it was or if it was organic. It would be nice for the DRC to let their customers know what they are buying.

We thought the prices were high but fair because it's organic. We wished the atmosphere wasn't so casual and loud, though. It would not be a place to go for a special occasion.

Thank you, Liz, for taking time to write your detailed review. First, I would like to apologize for our hostess's apparent lack of attention or concern for your friends - her having a "bad night" is not acceptable. Our website General Information page which includes our location and hours, also has an "Accessibility" paragraph which encourages a call to specifically reserve a seat in our downstairs dining area. And, you are correct - the larger dining room upstairs can be quite noisy but, we also have a smaller room upstairs that would have been quieter. All in all, it sounds like we dropped the ball on your seating location. We are just glad that you enjoyed your meal and our staff so the night wasn't a total let down.

Just had a great brunch here celebrating my daughter's engagement. The food was all excellent and service was exceptional. We had a large group but we our waiter took care of us like we were the only people there.
