Sunday late afternoon stop here. Seriously felt like we were at a family reunion after walking around back where lots of people were congregating. There were tables of potluck food and a fish fry going on. Food was all free, but they ask for a donation if you’d like. Fish was great and it was nice having food available. There were also $3 beers at another table too. We parked about a block away on a side street and walked because the small lot was packed. Inside was a bar, people dancing and live music that was being played out back by speakers too. Inside was also the bingo table where a large table with a chicken wire frame box on top with boxes of numbers with chicken food sprinkled all over. By far the highlight of the evening was the Bingo. I believe it starts at 4, but we got there around 5:15 and hung around for little while to figure out how things worked. The line formed to buy tickets around 5:30 and they sell until all are gone.Tickets are $2 so the winning pot is $114 and the bar doesn’t take a cut which I thought was impressive! The line was next to the chicken coop where you could see the black and white speckled chicken of the hour. Shortly after everyone moved inside to gather around the bingo table. After the chicken is placed inside, everyone waits, cheers and patiently pleads for the chicken to do his business on their ticketed number. I’ve heard this can take up to hours, but thankfully ours only took about 10-15 min. Definitely a fun time and a great local activity. I’d strongly urge you to check it out.

You like dives? This is a 1 of a kind place with the friendliest waitresses. If you dont try this place you're missing out. The music is great and would be my bar if i lived here.

I went on a Sunday afternoon to experience the Chicken Bingo upon a recommendation of a friend. But I stayed for the excellent music and the dancing. The chicken bingo is fun, but slow. It can take hours for the chicken to mark a spot. In the meantime I enjoyed the music and the dancing. The friendly atmosphere allows locals and tourists to chat and dance. Go early to get a table. Free hotdogs and chili dogs. $2.00 beers. Ask a local about the 'protocol' of how to buy a ticket for the bingo: Tickets are sold out back at a different spot each time. Start 'loitering' out back around 4PM then run to get in line so they don't sell out before you get one. Tickets are $2.00/number. The night I was there they did a second round of bingo so if you get a second chance if you miss it the first time.
The place gets really crowded, but everyone is friendly. Lots of people are there to two-step and they don't mind if you don't really know how.

A must see honky tonk saloon with a fun bingo time. A chicken is left to wander on caged table with 60 numbers inscribed on the top. The winner of the "bingo" is the lucky number where the bird does his business. The crowd cheering the chicken on is as much fun as watching and waiting the "magic" moment. A small intimate place with a real mixture of locals and visitors alike drinking and listening to live music. The beers are very reasonably priced and free hotdogs with fixins are offered. A real fun time and opportunity to be entertained. The courtyard outside is also eclectic and Texas at its best.

When I first heard about chickenshit bingo.. I thought.. Oh, how humanity has fallen.....
BUT...... wait for it..... THIS PLACE IS FANTASTIC! The first thing I saw when I stepped in was a 2 year old little boy dancing to the honky-tonk band playing in the corner.... a few folks with their dogs. Mulling about... a very busy bar.... and of course the chicken cage sitting in the corner.....
The bartenders were prompt, helpful, polite.... can't ask for more that that..... 3 buck beers and free chili dogs too! The place is small.. but make sure to check out the decor before heading out back with the rest of the crowd..... The kids get first crack at picking the numbers....the lines are long to chose numbers.. but everyone's friendly laughing and it's a great atmosphere... and watching the chicken?.... Oh man, you just haft be there... AND DO BE THERE! If in the Austin area.. DO NOT MISS THIS.... and say hi to everyone for us!
