Awe Heywood, our sister city home. We love this place and would never consider staying anywhere else while it is operating. East Austin is thriving and in the 2 years since our last visit it has exploded with new businesses that you have a smorgasboard of good times at your door step. Off street carparking, luxurious linens and comfortable beds make this an easy option for our Austin jaunts. Staff are always delightful and full of knowledge for all your needs navigating the city. We always get their smallest Queen Bee room because the wall paper makes me so happy as well as the sky light that runs the length of the wall gives you a stormy outlook when you are toasty warm in bed. Heywood gives you the most thoughtful and cheapest mini bar range I have ever seen - full of local goodies . Can't sing their praises enough. If you like small boutique accommodation with personality and warmth, this is your go-to place. Can't wait 'till our next visit

Room Tip: they are all good!

We loved staying at the Heywood last weekend: Kathy and her staff are warm and welcoming, our room was fabulous, and the hotel is just bliss. It is everything you would ever want of a small boutique hotel. And more.

We lived in Austin for two years, and so we're a bit biased against the craziness of 6th Street. The real Austin is a sleepy, charming, smaller Austin composed of neighborhoods just like East Austin. Staying at the Heywood gives you a much better sense of the what Austin is really like, and it's location is perfect - you can get downtown in a heartbeat, you can walk down to the hike and bike trail (recommended) and you can also walk to several of the best restaurants in the city. All without the noise and chaos that has increasingly taken over downtown. Also, they have incredibly comfortable beds and the best bathroom toiletries of any hotel around. A new favorite.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, but I love the rooms off the upstairs patio

The Heywood is a really lovely, hip little hotel (only 6 rooms) in the somewhat grungy neighborhood of East Side, Austin on up and coming E. Cesar Chavez St. We loved the place and the neighborhood. Try it, you'll like it. We went out on foot every morning for breakfast: there are the usual food trucks but do NOT miss the Quickie Pickie place just east of The Heywood for breakfast and have the Hippie Hash (all veggies) with a couple of fried eggs on top, coffee, charcoal grilled bread and a good newspaper to read with the meal. Heaven.
We upgraded to a better room and the rooms are lovely: full of light, GREAT shower and tub, windows and light on two sides and a little private enclosed patio with a door we could close for complete privacy. The Heywood is NOT cheap, especially considering the neighborhood but I'd rather stay there than one of the monster "business hotels" just a mile away in downtown.
One of the highlights of The Heywood is staff. I think they have a total of 3 or 4 (it is only 6 rooms). We interacted a lot with Maris - who is a gem: she is knowledgeable, able to talk from experience about restaurants and attractions, LISTENED well and was as helpful and pleasant as could be. Parking is terrific and easy - 6 rooms, 6 spots, 3 of them covered. The rooms are full of magazines, restaurant suggestions, lists of things to do. One caveat - there is no elevator and rooms are, I believe, all on the second floor, grouped around a private little patio.
If you've read this far you'll get the idea - The Heywood is a great little property and if you can afford it, go and stay. You won't be sorry.

Room Tip: All rooms are shown on the site. All rooms are bright, private and quiet and well furnished

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights - as part of our honeymoon - and loved every minute. It's a beautifully decorated and modern hotel, with just 7 rooms, and it feels very private and personal.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful (before & during our stay), they clearly know the city inside-out and provided a number of great tips (make sure you ask about 'the secret springs' if it's a hot day!)
The free bikes (with helmets & locks!) were a real bonus as was the hotel's own local map which included recommendations of bars, restaurants and food trucks etc. They were all great!!

We liked the area. It was quiet - away from the bustle of SOCO - and close to a number of cool and interesting areas.

We stayed in room 4 (I think!) which was upstairs and had a private outside area. Again, I'd highly recommend it, it was really nice having our own outside space especially given the hot weather.

We can't wait to return and many thanks again to all of the guys at the Heywood hotel for helping make it a special stay!

Just a fantastic place. Great vibe, outstanding customer service, super area, very comfortable. This place has a warmth you're never going to find at a chain hotel. Many nightspots and the world class offerings of La Barbecue within a couple minutes walking distance. Not right in the heart of downtown and WELL worth the short walk/ride it takes to get there. All of our future stays elsewhere will be measured, most likely unfavorably, to The Heywood.
