The Union Bar on this Thursday night was filled with a lot of hippie – types. Felt like I was at an Urban Outfitters photo shoot! College students trying to throw back to the 1960s. There was a Doors – style band playing upstairs. Good beer selection, lots of craft beer on draft. No cover! Have to say I recommend it!

Kinda of a dive bar with cheap or expensive drinks, depends what you order. Pool table available.
Very nice upstairs music and party venue where a lot of good performances happen almost every weekend.
Enjoyable patio for the warm times.
Not a lot of OU undergrad students come to The Union, more locals and graduate students. A lot of international graduates too.

Rough around the edges but would you want it any other way? Cheap drinks and a big, loud upstairs performance stage. Seems to be THE place for local rock/punk/indie shows. Wild times were had.

A very comfortable place to enjoy a cold adult beverage and involve yourself in as many varied conversations as you can hope for. Great beer selection and bar staff (especially Noel), this place has character.

As I understand it, The Union is Athens' oldest bar. I don't know how much truth there is to it, but legend has it, it was appropriately named during the Civil War. I do know, however, that it outlasted prohibition. It was around in the early '70's when my mother lived in Athens. And, my band played there on the weekends during my tenure in the early ots.
Although I remember ordering a cheeseburger there approximately 20 years ago, I don't think they serve food today.
Simply said, The Union is a place for spirits, conversation, and music. Pass your time at the bar shooting the breeze with staff about rock and roll, and wander upstairs for live music later on.
