Great permanent displays and regular presentations by park rangers. Superb view of Beaufort Sound, Shackleford Banks and surrounding area. Wonderful hiking trails and miles of beaches. An excellent destination for families, especially those interested in history.

Absolutely recommend visiting the Fort Macon State Park. Lots to look at and very interesting sights to see! Loved the history lesson and enjoyed the location. Make sure you walk over to the seashore and hunt for shells!!! This is free and you may make a donation to the park. They also have a lovely gift shop.

While on a recent vacation in Pine Knoll Shores, we visited Fort Macon. We were amazed how well maintained the fort is and how much detail went into the exhibits chronicling its history. There is no fee to enter either the fort or the museum. We did, of course, make a contribution to keep this marvelous piece of history operating for future travelers to explore and enjoy. One word of caution: There are no railings around the upper walls of the fort. If you have small children, keep a close watch on them.

There is a nice welcome center with beach access and great views. When you drive a little further up the road, you get to the four and the museum. The museum has lots of historical information and is nicely organized. There is a mini theater where you can watch a documentary. The fort is very well preserved and has great views and lots of rooms were you can walk in and see where soldiers lived and worked. Great experience!
