Owner description: Much of the city of Patara remains buried in sand, which has helped to preserve many of the ruins. Of particular interest are the Amphitheatre, Necropolis and the monumental gate or Arch of Triumph.

Although these ruins are a restoration site and is still ongoing, they are well worth visiting to see what a fantastic place it is.

The Parliament Building which has been restored and possibly one of the first of its kind is very interesting as you read all the information boards and the Amphitheatre which at present fenced off (have been previously before when accessible) you can imagine what it must of been like with a roaring crowd.

If you walk around past the main street columns continues along rough tracks and shows the size of the city. There is a area where the lighthouse ruins are, this was a port in its time.

When visiting its worth taking time to read all the information boards explaining the history of the city.

Visited here after the beach. Wish we'd had more time, as we really couldn't do it justice in the short time we had there. Great to see so much restoration going on, and look forward to a longer visit in future. The main street was incredible, and gave a good indication of the size of the city, the columns were so well preserved / restored. Will definitely be back on a future visit to the area.

Ok. It’s a renovation but a visit to a first Century BC parliament ( perhaps the first parliament building in the world) is worth it. And afterwards you can visit the sandy beach.
Costs 15lr to drive down the road.

The Patara ruins are truly amazing, and well worth a relaxed, lengthy visit. They are just a short drive from Kalkan, and walking distance from the lovely sandy Patara beach. This site has benefited from some government investment in terms of signs and restoration (as compared to the neglected Xanthos), and is breathtaking in the late afternoon light. Allow plenty of time if you really want to take it all in. We'll be going back when we next return to Kalkan.
