“Not so easy to assess.”
Reviewed 19 March 2012

Much was said about the daytime noise for the works in progress; as in other cases of uneven quality, it is difficult to give an overall evaluation. So let examine the items one by one. Service is poor: I was sent to buy tickets for Melacca to a wrong bus station; the night receptionist did not pass my taxi reservation to her colleague; staff is just nice, but not motivated at all. On the other hand, my shower problems were fixed in half an hour, and my valuables were secured in the guesthouse safe.
Value is very good: we could spend four nights in the centre of KL at a very reasonable rate.
Sleep quality is good, if you happen to get the right room; we were on the very end of first floor, but those who sleep close to main door or to the breakfast room will have problems! The double bed is large and comfortable.
Cleanliness is poor: rooms are not cleaned every day, nor the common parts of the guesthouse; I mean stairs and breakfast room.
Location is great, especially for restaurants and pubs, all at a walking distance. And street traffic is very moderate.
Room is average: small room, no wardrobe, just a small table. But we had windows both in the room and in the bathroom, which is a bonus.
In the end: next time I will try another guesthouse, just to have a minimum of experience.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor rooms.

We stayed here for 2 nights. Location-wise it is fine and it is a simple guesthouse, with simple accommodation. Problem is there are works being done in the adjacent house which starts from 8am - 5pm, even on Sunday. No one advised us beforehand this was the case and it didn't help that our room was on the ground floor hence literally next to the noise. No discount either for the inconvenience. Other than that, you get what you pay for although we found other accommodation for cheaper prices and would have happily changed if we hadn't already paid in advance. I would stay elsewhere until the building work is completed at least.

Room Tip: Dont stay on the ground floor.

Stayed at Sahabat guesthouse for a weekend and loved it. The room (upstairs) was great, comfy and clean. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. And the location tops everything. It's quiet yet right in the middle of everything. Great bars and restaurants just around the corner. Highly recommendable!

Small room, no wardrobe, pretty poky but you wouldn’t expect much for the price. Day staff were reasonably friendly and helpful and it was a self service breakfast, which led to meeting your fellow travellers. We stayed for three nights. My review would have been OK – just - but for the end. On the last night I set the alarm on my phone to go off at 03.50 am to catch an early flight. I stopped the alarm, finished throwing everything into a bag and we walked about 7 metres to the front door, another 2m through the little patio area to the cab which was waiting immediately outside. Half way to the airport (25 mins later) I realised I had left my phone or dropped it in the guest house. The taxi driver phoned immediately but the night watchman denied it was there. We got him to check not just the room but the short corridor and even outside the gate but he swore it wasn’t there. Well, it certainly wasn’t in the taxi or anywhere else in our luggage. As it was a new Samsung Galaxy S11 and worth a bob or two, I guess someone – and I leave it to your imagination as to who – must have made a tidy profit that night. If you cannot trust hotel staff it makes for a poor stay.

We were greeted with a very unpleasant person. He did not smile or said hi. He looked at us gave us our key and pointed to out room. O...k... The room is fairly small but we knew that from previous reviews. It is clean but the bathroom looks especially worn.

The location is a little tucked away on an side street that is not well lit and part of a somewhat trashy building complex. It smells pretty badly when you walk out with an overspill of trash bags on the side of the building.

The worst part is the construction that's going on right next to it or behind it. Regardless, it sounds like it's in the next room.

The guesthouse itself removed from the building it's part of is cute and clean but for the same price I saw other cute places nearby and on well lit streets that looked like a better option.
