Steel your nerves and push through the curtain and slide back the door. You’ll be rewarded for your bravery.
This place is run and staffed by a small crew of women and they know what they are doing. We were greeted straight away, then sat at the bar/counter in short time. The flavors coming out of this minuscule kitchen are remarkable. I ordered the Original Tsukemen and my wife was gifted with the Black Ramen- of course we both chose well. I can admit that she had the deeper umami flavor than did, but my bowl was perfect. The pork and egg were excellent.
The quality food, relaxed atmosphere and on point service were deeply appreciated after walking around in the rain for hours. We hated to leave, but now have an excellent memory from our trip. Unfortunately, now that we are home, ramen shops here don’t even come close to the smells, tastes and satisfaction we got from a short break from the rain in Kyoto.
