For anyone who’s been to Koyasan and enjoyed it, you will be spellbound with this temple, walk from Kyoto in the morning and immerse yourself. Was the best place we went to this time.

This “villa” combines stunning vistas, carefully arranged so that you come upon them without previews, with elegant tea houses and bridges. You need to sign up online to get in, and it’s a carefully guided tour, but we’ll worth the effort.
Best place I've been so far to see autumn leaves. It was so beautiful that it was hard to believe I wasn't in front of a paiting!
This is a quiet and beautiful temple, exceptionally beautiful during Autumn. We visited this temple again in May. There was no crowd here, unlike Kiyomizu-dera. It may not be as commercialised like other temples where you can purchase lots of souvenirs or amulets. But it is worth a visit if you prefer a place where you can enjoy the greenery and serenity at your own pace.
Famously home to the Tahoto Pagoda and the sideways facing Amida statue, Zenri-ji is a wonderful temple to visit and should form part of your trip if seeing Nanzen-ji. There are a variety of buildings with which to explore as well as pond and rock gardens. What you cannot prepare yourself for however, is the immense burst of autumnal colours with reds, purples, greens, yellows and oranges setting the backdrop for the surrounding area. Truly breathtaking.
This is a superb temple. When we were over there in cherry blossom season it was quiet. It's a short walk south from the Path of Philosophy. Pretty surroundings.
