This temple is often associated with the legend of Ushiwakamaru, Minamoto Yoshitsune, a hero of Japan. From downtown Kyoto to Kurama, you can take Eiden. But from the main gate to the temple, you have to walk, or better to say climb the mountain. If you have time, you can even enjoy a hiking to Kibune.

Some of the hike is quite steep in parts so some level of fitness would be recommended but.... the hike and scenery are quite amazing with lovely temples nestled into the mountainside. We hiked from Kurama to Kibune.

The temple is simple and quite beautiful. But the location is wonderful. We were there just before the cherry blossoms we're in bloom. It must be unbelievable when they are. We didn't do the big walk up to the temple but we did walk down and am glad we did. It's a pretty easy walk through the hills. We were in the area for a few days and were very happy we didn't miss Kurama.

This temple is at the end or beginning of the Kibune to Kurama hike, whichever way round you do it
It is quite a walk up if you start there, but there is a cable car for the first bit

A stunning building, full of peace and love. A beautiful view across the valley to Kurama township. A visit to the temple is included in the price if you approach from Kibune. Highly recommend.
