The temple is simple and quite beautiful. But the location is wonderful. We were there just before the cherry blossoms we're in bloom. It must be unbelievable when they are. We didn't do the big walk up to the temple but we did walk down and am glad we did. It's a pretty easy walk through the hills. We were in the area for a few days and were very happy we didn't miss Kurama.

This temple is at the end or beginning of the Kibune to Kurama hike, whichever way round you do it
It is quite a walk up if you start there, but there is a cable car for the first bit

A stunning building, full of peace and love. A beautiful view across the valley to Kurama township. A visit to the temple is included in the price if you approach from Kibune. Highly recommend.

This is a great day hike for those who wants to get out of Kyoto CBD and the repetitive Temple galore visit.

This is a pretty simple hike which start from Kurama and ends at Kibune town.
Scenery is very enjoyable and you get to see a soak in the beauty of the surroundings and understand some cultural differences of this temple.

After the hike, one can head to Kibune town and enjoy lunch and take a short stroll back to the train station to get back to Kyoto.

Time to Spend : 3-5 hours

To reach the temple's main hall that is located up the mountain from the temple's gate, you can choose either walk uphill or use cable car halfway up the mountain. Unfortunately, the cable car was still out of service due to maintenance work when we visited there. We had to walk uphill which took 30 minutes to the main hall. Compare with Fushimi Inari in the southern of Kyoto where the main hall is also at the top of the mountain, for me Fushimi Inari walkway uphill is much interesting than the one in Kurama. The main hall stands on the terrace where we can enjoy the mountain view of the surrounding area. From here you can continue your hiking to Kibune Temple through the forest path behind the main hall.
